1. I tried the oxtail plate, but it was lacking in seasoning and was tough like sandpaper. On the plus side, the portion sizes were huge; they just missed the mark on cooking time and flavor! (Really, all you need is Lipton onion soup mix and beef broth.)
2. The brown gravy meatloaf with macaroni and cabbage was better – my friend enjoyed it.
3. The fried and grilled pork chop plate was a letdown. The grilled chop was extremely tough. This was my second time at this restaurant. Both times were pretty good experiences for the most part but this visit was better than the first.Each time I ordered veggie plates. Two on the first visit and one this visit. Everything was delicious this time. The first visit I didn’t care for the dressing or the Lima beans. When I was in there this last time I overheard a more frequent customer talking to the person she was with saying that some of the food be a hit or miss. I was a little disappointed with the strawberry cake because I asked the young lady was it boxed and she said no…. It definitely tasted boxed.Overall, good experience. I was a frequent customer until a few weeks ago. I came in and ordered a catfish dinner. The fish is cooked to order and it's usually hot and seasoned well. When my fish came out... I didn't look at my fish until I got home. It was old and refried. The meat was a grayish color and it was hard as a rock. Had I ate that fish it would have possibly gotten me very sick. I threw it in the trash and tried calling the restaurant. I called for 2 days and no one would answer the phone. I don't know if I will ever go back!
I read the reviews really wanted some soul food so I tried this establishment first the lady fixing my food had a attitude the food was not good to me I had a meatloaf plate and baked chicken plate my chicken was cold the Mac and cheese wasn’t good the greens wasn’t good the candy yams wasn’t good the green beans had no taste I wasted 38 dollars because all but the cornbread went toThe trash ?️ never again now the bbq place across the street is the real deal there sides are soooo good please go there

To get a plate after 2 pm and the first thing that hits your nose is a sour smell after spending almost $40 on 2 smothered pork chop plates with mash potatoes with gravy that looks as if it's being reused is disgusting . Maybe it's time to find cooks that really enjoy what they do this seems as if this is a place looking for a come up not to show the passion they have for food. I won't give it another try. The first impression is the one that counts most.
I gave two stars because the food was delicious. However,if I walk into a business I expect good customer service without nasty attitudes. You don’t know if someone is a secret shopper! Giving people nasty looks is disgusting. You don’t know that person or what they are going through. I will be back to see if it’s an update on the attitude and nasty looks.
Mid. I’ve had a lot of soul food nice service, but something was a bit off about the food. Alot of it didn’t seem fresh. The fried chicken I had wasn’t hot/fresh and a bit dried out. The sides the same way seemed not fresh and canned.
The food was delicious! The staff was friendly and so was the manager/owner! I will go back again. Got the smothered pork chop meal with creamed corn and greens. And a fried chicken meal. Everything was hot and tasty!
