As a past loyal customer, I felt the need to revise my review from 5 years ago from 5 stars to 3. The new ownership greatly reduced the menu selection. We had been reading about the changes online but wanted to see it for ourselves. We were happy to see that they retained most of the old staff. However, to our great disappointment, our past traditional favorites (and what used to set this restaurant apart from others are gone (e.g., soba noodles, sukiyaki, dinner sets, bento boxes, hamachi kama, coffee jelly, etc. . I had the impression that this place has undergone some changes, as all my favorite menu items are no longer available, which is quite disheartening. It seems to have transitioned into more of a quick sushi spot with a concise menu, spanning just one page front and back. This new menu primarily focuses on various sushi rolls, with the salmon lemon roll being a noteworthy exception and quite delicious. Strangely, there isn 't even a drink menu, which is a departure from the norm. It no longer gives off the vibe of an authentic Japanese restaurant in my opinion. The restaurant has recently changed management, and it's evident in the quality of the food. We've ordered from here twice since it reopened, and both times we've been disappointed with dishes we used to love. I would now classify it as offering mall-quality Japanese cuisine. The teriyaki steak don was overcooked on both occasions, lacking flavor with a thin sauce, and the takeout packaging was a mess. This dish used to come with a side salad, but apparently, that’s no longer the case. We also ordered tempura shrimp and received just three small pieces. Have been a long time customer (20 years) and the visit last weekend was such a disappointment. As others have said the menu is missing so many of the favorites that made Renga Tei special from other Japanese restaurants. Also was upset to see bento boxes are lunch only! The food was definitely not as good. The tempura was terrible and the sushi actually would fall apart when picking it up. That would never happen under the previous ownership. It's such a shame that we will no longer go back unless we see the reviews say things have gotten better and the menu puts back those old favorites. We go a few times a month! Healthy, real japanese food! High quality and truly authentic. This place has new ownership and it's still as wonderful as it was before and we're so happy that it is still around.
