We have eaten several times at this gourmand restaurant (the auberge also has rooms but we have never stayed as we live nearby and there is also the bar which serves basic Swiss fare) and each time have savoured a delicious meal. Usually we have chosen the discovery menu (70CHF each for four courses, 90CHF if one includes a wine selected by the patron for each course); the concept is that the chef chooses what you eat and each course comes as a surprise. The minimum number of people is two for this menu. All dishes are selected from the main menu but this works out marginally cheaper and the element of surprise is fun. One may request to not include something e.g. I don't like foie gras, my husband cannot eat anything with too much sugar or honey. The presentation is exceptional and each course (and wine) is accompanied by a short explanation. A recent example was langoustine with hot and cold bisque with artichoke puree, duck breast with accompanying vegetables, local cheese and pannacotta with fresh berries. Usually there is nothing we dislike about the food, but on our recent visit this weekend we found the vegetable dish to contain slightly burned onions which spoiled it. The restaurant, despite the delicious food, lacks a certain atmosphere and is rather bland in appearance. Although we have eaten there several times, there is never any recognition that we are recurring clients, nor is there a particularly warm welcome (except the lovely smile of the young girl serving). We consider this to be a failing on the part of the owners. One hopes that perhaps they are shy rather than aloof!
