We stopped over in Ribeauvillé for one night on our way to Switzerland and went in search of a pretty looking, authentic restaurant in a pretty part of town. Du Mouton fit the bill perfectly, on a lovely quiet square and with a pleasant flower-bedecked terrace. The menu was reasonably priced with nice local wines (literally from just down the street!) and some fantastic beer from the craft brewery Brav' in Riquewihr.Food was plentiful - I had a lovely Coq au Riesling with Spaetzle - really buttery and tasty - and some huge Profiteroles. The kids menu is pretty much a one trick pony ( chicken and chips) - however the chicken was actually really good, quality chicken and not some of the usual rubbish passed off as kid appropriate in virtually every Menu Enfant you find in every tourist hotspot. The table next to us ordered the beef and when I saw it being brought to the table before being carved up into succulent red slices I realised I had made a small error. The beef is actually matured on site ( I spoke to the waiter and he showed me where they did it) and looks fantastic. Something I will definitely be trying next time I pop through the town.Only disappointment was a Moelleux au chocolat that failed to melt in the middle - tasted good if not quite what was hoped for! In short - nice environment, fine service, nice food for all and good drinks. Worth a visit.
