In the area last July '15 for a reunion among old friends & former co-workers when I lived in the area in the mid 80s. My dinner companion & still close friend ate there one evening. The service was prompt and friendly without being overly attentive. It probably helped that my companion, as a resident of Garmisch, speaks German plus she speaks perfect English so she acted as my translator. I ordered trout. It was absolutely perfectly prepared *sigh!*. The portion was a bit bigger (3 large fillets + sides) than I anticipated but I still nearly finished all but 3 or 4 bites. The restaurant was spotless, the food was A+, the service was a 10. I'm returning in 2017 & will ABSOLUTELY return there for dinner...hopefully with the same beautiful woman who accompanied me. Website is in English & German but does not have a menu. To me, the entree was "Fine Dining" while the expense was "Mid Range".
The Sentido hotel seems to have several restaurants - don't know how interconnected they are, but I ate in the Hammersbacher Hütte in the separate hut by the rushing stream and the path to the Höllental. I picked it because I thought it still had sun on the terrace - the sun had actually stopped by about 6pm but it was still reasonably warm and had great views over the sunlit mountains and hotel buildings. But the food was the winner. I had brilliantly grilled medallions of 3 different meats with cheesy noodles that would compete with many American mac n’ cheeses, plus access to the salad bar. One of the best meals I had in Germany. Certain dishes looked expensive compared to what I had paid elsewhere, but the meal I got was €16 and worth every cent. Menu was only in German but the staff were great and seemed to speak English.
We had previously eaten in the Hammersbacher Hütte and were reasonably satisfied and that prompted us to try the restaurant. A TOTAL DISASTER.We were given a table and waited for the menu and a waiter to take a drinks order. Instead of service we were requested to move tables and this three times. We had not seen a menu or able to place a drinks order even though we were occupying the fourth table. The first waiter that we were able to stop rushing past our table curtly informed us that the hotel was full. That might have been a fact but the restaurant was empty. A second waiter slammed one menu on the table and walked away without saying a word. We left in disgust. Luckily we know that this is not typical of Grainau.
