Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park

I dined at Hywel Jones last week during my trip to the Cotswolds and had a mixed experience. First off, the good the food and wine were amazing. We chose to do the à la carte menu and each dish was so balanced. The amuse bouche which was a parsnip mash was incredible. The dishes were also beautifully constructed. Now on to the bad the hostess was awful and quite abrasive. She barely looked us in the eye and kind of tossed us the menus. She said she would send the sommelier over and walked off. Stunning venue. Electric gates. Beautiful grounds. Great first impressions. Drinks in a beautiful room whilst perusing the menu. Then you're taken through to the the restaurant. 7 course taster menu. £140. If you want a paired wine selection £130 (approx). I opted out of the wine due to driving. So far as expected. Unfortunately the majority of the food courses were average. With the exceptions being the cheese and the raspberry dessert. Dissapointed. But the Team were so lovely that I didn't want to ruin their evenings by complaining.

we ate here twice during our stay. the first time was in an oppresiw small room with zero ambiente, but we ate from the al-Acarte menu that was delicious and the service excellent. the second time we were in the main room where there was more ambiente (re: lärm), but the service was shockingly massive waiting between the taste menu meant that we did not get out until 2.5 hours later (11:30) was also disappointing in comparison to the Al map.

Wonderful evening with delicious food. A few minor hick ups got in the way of it being perfect but we enjoyed ourselves. The food was absolutely excellent, and the service as well. The only thing I would say is that the set up of the dining room is makes it feel extraordinarily stuffy. It seems to be organised so that everyone can see everyone else, so there is little intimacy of any. Price per person: £100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Beautiful room and excellent service. All the staff were warm, informative and extremely professional. Tasting menu was exceptional by British standards, and service was brisk. Food was unique and flavourful. Will visit again!
