Restaurant Lido

The Lido is located on the opposite side of most of the hotels and restaurants in Gerardmer. Thus it's more quiet and less crowded than the other beaches and restaurants around the lake. That's why we went there. But!I have never ever in my life experienced a staff as unfriendly as the one of the Lido in Gerardmer. But when you get to know the owner or maybe it was just the manager in charge, you know why!They have a nice beach with sunloungers to rent. That's what we wanted to do. But since no one of the team was available we settled on two sunloungers that weren't reserved and waited for someone of the staff to pay the rent for a day. Two hours nothing happened. Then a lady of the team arrived with a Dutch couple and said we had to leave since this couple had reserved our sunloungers. There hadn't been a sign indicating that the sunloungers had been taken. We said so but she didn't want to hear anything of that. So we left. Only to see that after 10 minutes the Dutch couple left as well. I went to them and asked them why they didn't stay. They told us that they never reserved the sunbeds and were astonished when they were asked to pay 14 EUR (in addition to the obligatory consumption of drinks) to stay even for only one hour. They didn't want that and told us we could have the sunbeds. I tried to ask the lady - who had told us before that we had to leave - and she harsley said, everything is rented. I mentioned that the Dutch couple left and obiously the sunbeds are free. (By that time my husband told me to leave it) I went to see the manager who treated us in a way I have no words for. He was very offensive. I have never seen anything like that before. Still I didn't want to give up due to badly back pain I wanted to lie on a sunbed. After I insisted he checked again and said, we could have the sunbeds. We settled there again and asked for some drinks. In another two hours no-one came to serve us. I have travelled more than 45 countries in the world. But this place with staff and manager was the worst I have ever seen!

We tried to get a dinner table in a few restaurants closer to our hotel and found a fully booked Gérardmer on Saturday night (23.01.16). Luckily, Ingrid from "A la Chaume de mon Père", suggested we tried out the Lido and all that I can say to her is thank you and God bless. The Lido has a wonderful "menu du marché" which allowed us to taste a variety fresh and wonderfully prepared food. The different meals were very good, particularly the main dishes and the desserts. Also I would like to leave a word of appreciation to the persons taking care of us that evening as they were very friendly, smiling and attentive.

Hard to beat location, directly in front of the lake, where the quality of the food and the nice service won't distract you from the view. A nice place to have dinner indeed.

We found the chef could just the same work in a Michelin star restaurant, no difference noticeable for the menues we ordered. It was delicious!
