I'm sorry... but words cannot possibly describe our impression of this place, but let's try:1) Interior: Dated with cracked faux leather seats.2) Service: I normally don't feel mistreated as a foreigner, and I will happily try my level best French to demonstrate that I don't expect them to speak English (or Danish for that matter) but in this case our waiter clearly turned his eyes, when he realized that we were not French. Not cool!3) Drinks: Don't ask for Perrier - they don't have it. However, they kindly stated they had 'Another type of sparkling water'. Okay... however, when I asked for a Coca, he returned with not a Coca Cola or a Pepsi, but an Elsass Cola...I've traveled 5 continents, but that's just never happened to me... I've gone to veeery French restaurants here in Copenhagen - restaurants so French that they simply don't serve cola (on principle), and even one very hardcore restaurant with its own brewery, that brew their own version of organic soda. However, when ordering a coke I've never gotten anything but Coke or Pepsi. For that I would at least have expected a warning.4) Food: Well... Obviously by now we should have gotten up and left, but we thought a filet of steak with sauce Bernaise and frites... You can't ruin that, right?Wrong! My filet was twisted like a pretzel and it was impossible to find a 'correct' way to cut it. It wasn't overcooked - just cut completely wrong and from an inferior piece of meat. My husband's filet looked slightly better, but was also cut incorrectly. The sauce seemed to be a premix of some sort and very sour. The french fries were okay.I left 80% of the meal untouched on my plate, and needless to say dessert did not seem like a good idea.5) Price: A bad meal is never fun, but a bad, expensive meal is even worse. Mulhouse is not cheap, and if you want a steak - any kind of steak in town, you will have to pay between 18 and 30 EUR for it. I'm not that price sensitive, but this is expensive for a no thrills course in a French provecial town. Prices seem to be on par with really good food in Berlin or London, and more expensive than Bruxelles or Amsterdam. And quite frankly it is not worth it.But to sum up HUG; Just don't!!!And by the way... the 1 star is given because it wasn't possible to give 0.

On my way between Spain and Sweden by van I have stopped 5 or 6 times in Mulhouse. Since the car often was loaded full with my stuff I liked the hotel Salvator with it's private parking, (see separate review on TA). But what really made me stop there several times was the restaurant in the next quarter, Le Hug. One can order food until 1 am I think and all I had there have been very good. There are French rustique dishes, local specialities and the best tartare I ever had. I especially remember the fois gras with it's glass of Pinot Gris, the duck salad and the kidneys in ancient mustard sauce and of course the tartare. You can order tartare in different styles or compose your own. Before serving it you get served a small piece to taste in case you want to change the formula. Portions are large, in order to eat a starter and a main course you need to be really hungry. Staff is very friendly and quick. The place is non-smoking. The interior have something old about it, it is very nice to sit at a table by windows and look at the street below, Mulhouse is a lively town. There are many regulars in this place and it is easy to understand why because the food is so good. If you happen to be in Mulhouse, don't miss this one, especially if it is late in the evening and you are hungry.

I'm not a big meat eater, anyway I do enjoy a ribeye or a tartare every now and then. This restaurant serves an outstanding tartare, which can be choosen in a variety of ways and sauces. Part of the preparation occurs at the table enabling you to taste a small bite and see if it's ok for you. Side orders are correct, overall portions pretty generous. The location is very convenient, the only I'd change is the decoration, quite updated and gives you an impression of early 70s. All in all, highly recommended for tartare.

we visited as part of a coach party for a meal in the evening. the tables were once cramped on their place, that was it! the food was guided over the table like in a canteen. I filled us up, but that was all you could say. at least we were in good company! the waiters didn't look happy and barely smiled. we ordered half a carafe house white wine calculated £21.50 euro. a bottle of red wine was 30 euro. just tear and laugh.
