My last visit to Volkshaus has been very disappointing... Ive been once here for dinner to eat oysters and it was great. But this time: We were hungry and ordered each a dish that seemed like a decent lunch as it cost us CHF...each. We asked the service lady if it was a proper portion and she kind of said yes. What came was a shock. My boyfriend received one piece of Bread with some sauce and little toppings and and myself I got enough fish but a couple of spoonfulls of mashed potatoes. We expressed our disappointment and I asked for top up of mashed potatoes so I could finish my dish by just eating fish with nothing else. The poor service seems to be a recurring theme here. In our case it was slow the kitchen lost our order and no-one noticed) and surly (no apology when the food eventually came). The food itself was quite good; not distinguished, for sure, but...robust, tasty, and in good amounts. I first found this place on a list of top restaurants in Zurich, which it is surely not. Nor is it cheap: we paid SFr for two people, two courses each and a beer each, no coffee
We liked the atmosphere of the restaurant however food was not that good. They had a special seefood evening. We took 6 pieces of oysters that took 30min to arrive and Moules as a starter. The Moules were nod bad but the still the worst...I've ever had. Service was excellent. Aldo our waiter was very friendly, competent and caring. I think we will go again to see how it is when they have standard menu and not a special seefood one.

that's an old charmer. very beautiful ambiente and atmosphere. I had fish and it was very well prepared (not to take for granted) the menu consists of many old Swiss classics and was quite tempting. the service was very friendly and nice

Our wait time was reasonable and the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was very nice. Food was good and the price was fair; the menu choices okay. Only complaint was our waiter was not friendly but just short of being rude.
