Restaurante Barcal

This place offers a tasting menu with tastes and flavours from around Colombia. We went for the drinks pairing which includes both alcoholic and non alcoholic pairings depending upon the course. It was modern, beautifully presented and every course tasted fantastic. The service was lovely...with full explanations for each course. It would have been nice to have a copy of the menu at the end, just to remember what we had, but that’s my only ‘gripe’ and a very small thing. There are no prices on the website and you don’t see a menu before the meal either, however they do call ahead of your reservation and talk through how they do things and confirm pricing.

El Barcal is a truly innovative tasting experience. Pairings are sometimes made based on the story they tell of the Colombia instead of just flavors but in the courses that do just do food and wine, they swing for the fences. Design wise the space...and ambiance and lived-in-home setup are deeply relaxing. It's a unique storytelling feat that you won't be able to find anywhere else. courses with a keen mind for sustainability (the only red meat was cow's tongue). Service is very professional and knowldegable. We ate pizza afterwards!

Good food and a beautiful place make Barcal one of Medellin´s best restaurants, although it lacks consistency. Great for a date night out with your husband, for it´s a romantic setting. The food is all good quality and the kitchen in view is beautiful, it would be great if they had more vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, which I am not, but sometimes like to eat this way.

A culinary delight using Colombian ingredients and combining it with contemporary cooking techniques. They only have a tasting menu, but each dish presented utilizes certain Colombian ingredients and is delicious. The restaurant itself is quaint and calm, and has a lovely courtyard. Comparing to similar...type of restaurants in North America, this is of great value!
