Their food is good but being ignored by the server beause she was the bartender was unacceptable. Once our meals we given to us, by the manager, we were ignored. Servers walked past our table many times as did the manager and the hostess but no one stopped to ask if we needed anything. The only way we got any attention was because I stuck my feet out of the booth into the pathway of the servers and leaned forward to get some attention. I generally don't leave less than a 20% tip, this was the exception. It was not my first time there but despite the quality of the food, it will be the last.
This restaurant has the best Mexican food in the area. We were on the way to another destination when we decided to stop in, and I’m so glad we did! The food was excellent, the service was exceptional, and the portions were more than enough to share between two people. The chips, salsa, and guacamole were delicious! Surprisingly, there weren't too many people there, so we didn't have to wait for a table. There's plenty of parking, and it's conveniently located on Route 1, right across from the University of Mary Washington. We will definitely be back!
Overall, this is a lovely Mexican restaurant with generous portion sizes. However, I do prefer freshly made guacamole, and the guacamole served to us tonight tasted like it was from a jar rather than prepared on-site with fresh ingredients like cilantro, green pepper, ripe avocado, and lime juice. Aside from that letdown, I enjoyed my cream chicken, which was delicious. I really hope this restaurant will start making fresh guacamole, as customers would surely appreciate the difference!
I love exploring new restaurants, and I'm so glad we discovered this gem! My husband and I had a fantastic experience at Rey Azteca. The menu offers a wide variety of options, the prices are reasonable, and the food was incredibly delicious. The drinks were also excellent, and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. This was almost an ok place. The coffee was very light. If you looking for a great Mexican food , you will be disappointed . The fajita mix was blend and too oily . We asked for some jalapeño to make it more tasty, but the waiter didn’t understand it completely . I think the Manager can do a better job in improving this place .
