Right Whale Pub At The Algonquin Resort

We have visited the Right Whale several times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the impressive menu. Typically, the service is outstanding, which makes this review surprising. I made a reservation through OpenTable for my spouse's birthday, and we had booked a night at the Algonquin Hotel, eagerly looking forward to dinner at the Right Whale. Since we live nearby in Saint John, we drove nearly an hour to reach the restaurant, only to find it closed. Apparently, they close on Thursdays. I don’t mind that they have specific days off, but it's crucial for them to keep their OpenTable information updated. We faced a significant language barrier with our server, who didn't speak either French or English. It was remarkably quiet for a rainy Saturday night, as if hotel guests were unaware of the restaurant's presence. The pub menu had limited options, but the nachos and drinks were quite good.

The restaurant embraces the theme of an English pub. It is definitely a hotel restaurant, but the food quality is excellent and the attentiveness to service is high. Somewhat pricier than one would expect but, again, it is a hotel restaurant. Recommended.
