Went in as The Hook was closed. Needed fish chips for 3. Asked if they did an OAP special, which they did, but still came to £20 which I thought was a lot for lunchtime (my local would be £13.97). Had to wait an age for it to be cooked, I think they also had to defrost the fish. Once I got it home found one lot of batter soggy and uncooked, my haddock had an area with no bather and a third of the fish was rock hard where it had been deep fried, and the chis were all covered in black specks YUK!!!!!! Needless to say we didn't eat it and I returned it later. First I was told it was because they couldn't get skinless haddock??? Then I was told they change the oil weekly, I advised the black bit...
My family used to be regulars at Riverside before it had to close due to fire. This was my second visit after re opening with new people and my second disappointment. The chips were the biggest letdown very gritty and disappointing! Upon recollection I'm pretty sure they were like this the first time we went back after reopening but I just forgot until I tasted them again today. Then it all came flooding back. Battered sausage was okay nothing special, though they rarely are out of a fish and chip shop. Don't think I'll be back. Only came here due to my regular being closed due to a recent fire.
My husband has just got some chips from here and they're awful. Cold and stale and to add insult to injury he was given such a small portion. It's disgraceful that they charge what they do for such bad food. The chips have obviously been sat around for awhile and they thought it was ok to serve them and didn't even give a proper serving. We'll have to try somewhere else next time. We don't have chips that often, we were looking forward to a nice treat and it's ruined! Don't go here, better to try somewhere else.
Recently had a home delivery on a evening meal. Was told a hour delivery time and it arrived within 20 mins, food was hot, everything I ordered was delivered, which from previous places hasn’t been the case. Food was absolutely delicious and I could taste that everything was cooked fresh. I’ve since been in again for food after a long shift at work. And again couldn’t fault the food or the staff. So polite and helpful. I will definitely visit again

Real traditional fish and chip shop, clean, well priced and cooked fresh to order, really tasty and welcome after a hard days work. recommend 100%, 5×
I have been in river side fish bar 3 times in a week l did enjoy very much. The fish was very fresh. Thanks guys l will be back again

Ordered 2 haddock, 1 skate and a wrap with chips. Cannot fault the food or the service! Now a firm favourite!
Only tried once but good fish n chips . I think I will buy again never an issue. I will recommend too
