Is this the best barbecue you're ever going to have? No. Is it going to be on your top ten list of best barbecue places? It shouldn't be. But is it a good fast food spot? Absolutely. Some of the common complaints I hear about this place is the quality of the meats and the sauce. The sauce is their own unique thing. It's on the sweeter side and it has a runny consistency. You either like it or you don't. Personally, I douse my food in their sauce so I'm in the former category. I can see people's complaints about the meat quality as I've had a few beef sandwiches that had some stringy and chewy parts to it. But it's good overall, and I've never had a *bad* meal here. Russell's holds a special place in my heart. It has been around all my life. Over the decades it has waxed and waned in its presence but it is still standing and serving its famous fare with its delicious and unique barbeque sauce which hooks most everyone after tasting it just once. My most recent visit (after quite a few years) instantly flooded my brain with family memories with the first bite of my shredded pork sandwich. Vegetarian options: They have a veggie burger.
I'm going to be honest and it breaks my heart from my first time here 30yrs ago to my last before tonight 8yrs ago, at dinner time on a Friday night, the food was terrible not worth a penny which I did paid more. Told a manager how bad both meals were, he did offer and gave us each dessert. Lauren got Chocolate cake and I got a Cherry cake in which we took home because I couldn't leave fast enough. Family friendly. Large group friendly. Plenty of seating inside/outside. Good food and good Italian ice (we had watermelon and lemon).
