After 40 years its time to say good bye I went for a special occasion what made it special was how bad it was. This has always been my wife and I 's favorite. It was her 60th birthday and the Pelican butchered it. From the moment we were greeted by an impersonal cold hostess, to sitting down and having two people who clearly did not communicate with each try to serve us. Amazingly after ordering an appetizer and our meal both came out together in about 5 minutes ICE COLD! Which tells me it was sitting there premade or made for someone else. The server was of no use and I politely spoke to the manager who kindly asked what could he bring us while they remade the dish, We told him we were fine...
We had just been married on the beach and were looking for a nice place to have dinner with our kids (ages 16, 15, 14, 8). We just so happened to drive by the Rusty Pelican and decided to check it out. Parking in the area is nuts, so valet parking is amust. We’ve never used a valet before, so we were happy to find out they accept card. When we pulled up to the valet, we askedif the restaurant could take the 6 of us (it was 8:30 and the restaurant closes at 10:00). We had a large group and I realize that can be difficult, but our server was barely present and we arrived when the restaurant opened, so it took time for it to fill in and get truly busy. He was helpful initially, but it took over 20 minutes to receive drinks and the meals took over 45 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered them. That entire time, we didn't receive the bread or a table touch. Because we had a large group and needed to catch a flight, l'd asked that the bread not delay the meals and specifically said we didn't want the food to take longer because we ordered an appetizer, but it seems like he just forgot about us. We celebrated our annniversary here the other night. Had a window seat on the 2nd level with a nice view of the harbor, boats and the sunset. The bartender greeted us as we passed by to our seat and our waiter was charming with a good sense of humor. Very pleasant and accommodating staff. The filet was perfect, very tender, and the ginger sea bass was flaky and moist. Great cocktails and wine also. The cheesecake we received for our anniversary was perfect, topped off with cappucinos a great evening. We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning.

The manager is amazing and the front desk associate aaa so kind she didn't mind us moving from outside to inside just patient and not frustrated.... Our waiter was always patient and very attentive just an overall positive experience..... back to being our favorite restaurant...
If you like quiet then go on a Monday around 6:30-7 pm on a monday or Tuesday. Make reservations get a window table or eat out on deck to view Newport Harbor. Service is good and food (Seafood) is great with appetizers ,soup and Entree. Look at menu on their website.
Service was slow, inattentive and incorrect. Food was ok. Shrimp was overcooked. Sea bass was over sauced and the salad was disappointing. View was nice. This was our second visit. First visit was lovely but not sure we'd go back after this one
Always a nice time, whether lunching with my sisters or getting together with friends or an intimate dinner with my husband and the beautiful bay view! Habib (sp? has been our waiter many times and always does an amazing job!

Rusty Pelican is a place my family and I love to celebrate our birthdays! The staff is friendly and extremely accommodating and the food is deliciously rich! This place never disappoints.
Small parking must valet. Food was decent the steaks was blend. Staff was great with it being so busy.
