Oh man, where do I even start with Salt Straw? This place is like if a rogue alchemist snuck into a dairy farm and started experimenting with forbidden elixirs. I strolled in with high hopes and emerged victorious with a milkshake that’s basically liquid gold: sea salt caramel as the silky base, crowned with two scoops of their olive oil ice cream. Olive oil in ice cream? It sounds like a madcap plot twist, but it delivers; creamy with a whisper of earthy savoriness that dances with the caramel like old flames rekindling. Each slurp was a symphony of rich, balanced bliss. I felt like I’d unlocked a secret level in the game of desserts. But wait, the drama unfolds: the straw. And hey, “Straw”...
I went all the time to Salt Straw in Seattle so I was very happy to see it was in Hayes Valley! Saturday at 6:00. A bit of a line, but it went over quickly. I appreciate how proactive their employees are with the question whether we wanted/hatten samples while we were waiting. We have the honey lavender, broken mint chocolate chip (vegan) the salted, malt, chocolate chip cookie dough. You can share the individual bowls that is great because they have so many delicious flavors! Salt Straw is definitely one of my favorite ice cream spots and I can't wait to try again their new flavors of the month!
I could not have more love for this store and its staff members in my heart if I tried. I approached them to ask if I can film a short scene of my thesis film in their store, and they were SO incredibly kind and supportive, not just of me, but of their own staff members, which I truly appreciated. Highly recommended! We chanced upon this shop on our way to the painted ladies. Their hefty serving for a single scoop suprised us. We thought maybe that was their way to compensate for the so so taste of their ice cream. We were wrong! They're spicing things up for Halloween with their Scoops Skulls Series. The Don Bugito's Creepy Crawly Critters flavor is surprisingly delicious, with matcha ice cream and crunchy chocolate crickets and toffee brittle mealworms. We love this ice cream place not just because of their delicious flavors. They always have, or because of the monthly new flavors that they cook up all the time. But we also love it because they always have vegan options. We don’t do well with dairy, so we’re always willing to take dairy pills to have these delicious flavors. But we also love that they are vegan flavors are also high-quality! It’s nothing fancy, it’s just ice cream. But they do it very well.
They had loads if vegan flavours, I got to sample the Dandelion chocolate hazelnut cookies' and chai spiced eggnog' and they were both so good I had a hard time choosing, in the end I went with the eggnog. SO GOOD. 100% the best vegan ice cream I've ever had. And they give you a very generous portion so no need to get a large.
Very artificial tasting flavors, perhaps why they add so many ingredients to one ice cream flavor. Specifically, I tasted the strawberry/balsamic, and pear/blue cheese. Death by choclate cake, was a whole lot of ingredients that didn't quite come together favorably. They were happy to give out samples.

Highly recommend. The flavors are of large variety—some are standard, some are pretty unique/quirky. I got the coffee w love nuts and chocolate chumparaddo w sesame toffee flavor in a split scoop. Both flavors were really amazing and go super well together!
