I hardly ever write reviews but in is worthy of it. Arrived at cafe at about around 2.55. Asked the assistant on arrival if they were serving food. She clearly said ‘yes’. I got in the queue and waited my turn only 2 groups in front, only to be to told about 5 minutes later that the kitchen was now closed, and the chef and another member of staff who I had spoken to at first had now gone home. I also checked the website in the queue to firm up mt menu choices this shows kitchen closes at 3.30, but was later told this was unreliable. So annoying all they need to do is clearly state when the kitchen closes and that if you are still in the queue at that point you will not be served ! Not good b...
I have often used this place and it was also one of my first eating from vegan places in southend. located directly on the beach and at the railway station chalkwell, it is a real gem of an ortes. many vegan options including cakes and ice cream. The blueberry croissant is absolutely amazing, especially with one of their soy salads. great friendly service and I can't say anything bad about this place. When I go to my long beach walks, I always make this a place to break for a coffee or snack. very hearty recommend veggies and vegans.
very rarely do I think that this screwed world improves in any shape or shape! but if they go to the spas brexitland and discover classic beach side caffes like these now have extensive vegan options. Maybe there is hope! No, it's not all vegan or even all veggie, but it wasn't long ago that everything that wasn't dipped in meat fat and kicked by the sea was difficult. I had a nice homemade vegetable patent and chips. service was friendly, next time I will try to get there before 12 and try the vegan breakfast.
We were walking passed and popped in for lunch. Really surprised of the choice of the menu as we were expecting the normal fast food but there was a lovely choice of healthy food as well which was made fresh to order. Friendly, helpful staff and great food. Will definitely be back.

We have just had the most AMAZING burger at Saltwater Cafe; it’s a special Friday evening menu from, I believe, 4:30. Honestly the best burger I’ve ever had; the bacon jam Parmesan chips were incredible too. Plus a beautul sunset, what more do you want
Absolutely perfect evening, great service and great food. The burgers and chips were perfect. Just back from Belgium, the fries capital of the world! and the chips tonight were on par with the ones we had in Belgium
salt water prepares delicious fresh vegetarian and vegan food at a very reasonable price. the menu changes regularly and they always have new vegan tasty options! the vegan breakfast has cured some of my crater!
small, bright and clean with the choice of vegan meals to breakfast and lunch. vegan burger with coleslaw slide was delicious. I'm glad we've overthrown it and will be back!

Had lovely fish finger sandwich and my partner a toasted tea cake. Both very tasty. Very pleasant staff- a great find. We’ll be back!
The staff are so friendly here, even when they're busy. Service with a smile. We had lovely smoked salmon bagels.
