My husband and I visited this restaurant for his birthday, although it was actually three days ago. Saporo is only open from Thursday to Sunday, but it was worth the wait. The waitstaff were attentive, but not overly so. We started with bruschetta and calamari, both of which were delicious. The calamari was hot and crispy. For our main courses, my husband had the bolognese, which he declared to be the best he had ever had. I tried one of the specials, risotto with black toasted rice, prawns, and clams, which was absolutely delicious. We were served in this lovely, cozy restaurant with friendly and skilled staff. The Italian cuisine was excellent, and we were impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu. Last night, we enjoyed a delicious meal of shellfish and linguine, paired with an interesting Neapolitan wine called Lachryma Christi. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Vesuvius.
I celebrated my mother birthday here with family friends. brilliant eating, great staff and an excellent atmosphere. the chef owner worked hard at the source allergen friendly ingredients and took care of all our requirements. nothing was too much annoyed for her.
Absolutely terrible service and attitude from staff… I have never heard of an Italian restaurant where you can’t buy a glass of red wine… or a sparking water… very bizarre… attitude of staff terrible

Not only an incredible culinary experience, the food here brought me an intense feeling of peace and tranquillity. Eating here is like the gastronomic equivalent of meeting an old friend.
This is hands down the best Restaurant in Newry. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the food is amazing and it has a lovely atmosphere about it.
It was late and we were tired and hungry. Our supper was hot, freshly-made and delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return.
Ordered the cod, very disappointed, it was more like a starter was mainly tomatoes and olives in a sauce, tiny piece of cod and cost £24
