We enjoy the food... they have by far the best onion rings we've ever eaten. My only criticism is that I like to order by phone so it will be ready when I arrive, however, no one ever answers the phone. The last time we let it ring for 15 minutes, and when I arrived there was only 1 person in line ordering and no reason the phone was not answered. As I waited for my order, the phone rang several times and the gal working the counter made no attempt to answer. So, don't bother calling in your order... no one will answer the phone.
One advantage of this place is the long tables, which are great for larger groups or families, making seating quite comfortable—something you don’t see often. Our visit was intentional; after braving the long St. Patrick's Day parade in the freezing cold, we were eager to eat, and this was a spontaneous choice. Considering the reasonable prices and various specials available, I would definitely recommend Schermerhorn's to anyone looking for a seafood dinner.
We discovered this restaurant on our way home from Vermont. Thanks to GPS, it's easy to navigate to and from the highway. We really enjoyed our meal, especially the seafood combo platter! The waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. However, it was a bit confusing figuring out where to place our orders, although there are signs to help. The place could use a bit of tidying up, but we definitely plan to return!
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was excellent and the portion sizes were generous. The service was attentive, and the ambiance had a lovely ocean and harbor theme. Disappointing dinner with family. The place is basically self service (order at counter, get your own soda), and the setting is very casual, very old and very very dark. Prices were higher than expected (given the crude atmosphere). Lobster roll for $30 was quite small. Two family members (of four) had gastric events once home.
