Appearances can be deceiving, and Second Street Bakery is a perfect example! From the outside, it looks quite unassuming, but the food inside is fantastic. I tried the chicken cutlet parmigiana hero, which was delicious—crispy chicken cutlet layered with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. The regular size is generous enough for one person and only $4.50. However, the real highlight was the St. Joe’s Sweet Ricotta Pastry. I sampled it while waiting for my sandwich and immediately asked the sweet lady behind the counter for another since it was the last one left. The pastry struck the perfect balance of mildly sweet ricotta and bread. Just thinking about it mak...

A classic, old school Italian sandwich place. Cash only. Not really a pastry/cake kind of bakery. But all the bread and rolls are made in-house. I tried several items, and everything was fantastic. The Italian Combo on Sausage Bread, was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Picture attached. The roast beef and mutz was very fresh and full of flavor. The meatball roll and pepperoni roll were good. Prices were very reasonable. No seats, everything to go. I was using mass transit that day, so I had to wait until I got back over near the PATH station to find a place to eat. The wait was killing me, the food was heavy (that's a good sign) and smelled great (an even better sign). I was not...

Second Street Bakery is hands down the best spot for subs in town—not to be mixed up with Second Street Deli nearby. This old-school, cash-only hole-in-the-wall serves up incredible sandwiches on freshly baked bread. A whole sub costs just $7. Treat yourself to one of their giant cinnamon rolls for only $2, and you’ll still be paying less than other sandwich places around. The place is tiny inside and cash only, so during COVID, I recommend calling ahead or waiting outside after ordering. The owner wears a mask and maintains distance behind the counter, making the experience safe and comfortable. Every time I pick up a sandwich, I just tell him to keep the change because it’s worth every pen...

Go for their talk of the town sandwiches or lasagna with meatballs, stay for their chocolate bread! This place is wonderful and I can 't believe after living in JC for a decade we are just now going to them. Every single thing they make is wonderful. Even just their 'regular ' bread !!! Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the value. So far we 've had their lasagna and meatballs, antipasto salad, cheesecake cookie and chocolate bread and it is all delicious. Would be a great place to order food for loved ones and do a surprise drop off. Reserva una mesa ahora

Without a doubt, the best sandwich spot in JC. The bread is fantastic, and whatever they make with it turns out perfect. Remember to bring cash since they don’t accept cards. Prices are fair, and portions are generous enough to leave you satisfied. Whether you choose a sandwich, a platter, or a pastry, you won’t be disappointed. Every item is a winner. Just close your eyes, pick something from the menu, and you’ll be impressed. It might not always look fancy, but the taste is incredible. Highly recommended!

Such a small little bakery but don't let the size fool you. They make amazing baked goods that will want you to come back. You can tell that this is where the locals have been going for ages and it isn't too hard to find out why. There is no seating in the place but it's more for coming in and getting something quick. They are a cash ONLY establishment. If you want to go to a real bakery with plenty of options please go to this place!

Been eating these delicious goodies since I was a kid in the early 80s. I now live in Ohio. I was so sad to get to NJ today and find out they were closed on Mondays. Can't wait until I'm back east again! Reserva una mesa ahora
