We stayed around Ashfield several times about 10 years ago and had a fine memory of nice Chinese food. We went there for a quick dinner last week but couldn't find any of the places we ate before and we picked this one as it looked popular but had a table. Oh, what a mistake! The worst chow mein I ever had!! And it was SO noisy. Will never go back there again.
The name is confusing with New Shanghai, therefore I accident went here instead of New Shanghai, when I found out it was too late, taste dramatically different from New SHanghai in a bad way....sorry no good, slow and bad service too...
The pan-fried bun is better tasted than the neighbouring New Shanghai. I guess they put much less (or no) MSG. Lunch deal is huge portion for a girl (10 buns a big bowl of beef soup). Will try it again.

OK, so I live 6 hours south of Sydney where there is a dearth of quality Asian food so perhaps I am easily impressed... However for $46 I had a feed that would have easily done 3-4 for my mate McGill
Good but not the best dumplings in town, some of the main dishes are a bit of an MSG overload. Do yourself a favour and check out New Shanghai next door for a better mainland food experience.
Best pan fried bun, xiao long bao and congee! Very cheap compare to neighbour new shanghai. Better taste as well. Will definitely go back.

Everyone's got a favourite Shanghainese joint in Ashfield that they swear by, Shanghai night is mine.
If all the Ashfield Dumpling places this is my go to as it is the least busy but food is great.
