Our first time at Sheelen?s was Saturday evening 4/16/22 when we were passing by on South Ave. in Fanwood. Since it was late, we chose takeout are very happy with the quality and taste of the battered fried fish chips, Po?boy Shrimp sandwich andfried battered zucchini! The battered food is fried until golden the fish is cooked just right. The portions are a goodsize, larger than we expected. The Cole Slaw is tasty. The knowledgeable young woman who took our order answered all ourquestions about the foods. I had the grilled scallops and fries, and the flavor was impressive. I would rate it just below 5 stars, mainly because it could use a few more scallops. However, I would definitely order it again! The tartar sauce that accompanied the dish was excellent. The seafood pot was overflowing with shrimp and scallops, which was a bit excessive; a little less would have been perfect. The real highlights were the soups! The Shrimp Cheese soup was fantastic, and the New England Clam Chowder was the best I've ever had—definitely a 10-star dish! I’ll be back for lunch. The owner was very friendly, too!

Had the grilled scallops and fries. Taste was awesome would give a slight less on 5 stars just because it def needed a few more scallops, but other than that, would order again, the tarter sauce that came with it was excellent! Also had the seafood pokebowl, now that was loaded with shrimp and scallops like crazy, actually could have been less and still would have been great.Stars of the show were the soups! This is a fantastic spot for fresh fish and seafood! I highly recommend the fish and chips, which come with two large fillets of cod, lightly battered, crispy steak fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. They also offer four different seafood soups, including the classic New England clam chowder and lobster bisque, along with two unique chef's creations. The hush puppies are excellent as well! They have daily specials throughout the week. The dining area is bright, clean, and airy, albeit quite simple, and bottled drinks are available.

To start, they excel at using a deep fryer, whether it's fish, hush puppies, or even Oreos. The soup is consistently delicious, but the lobster bisque tends to disappear quickly. I personally enjoy the warm Connecticut-style lobster rolls. They also offer raw fish, poke bowls, and tacos, although I haven't yet made it through the entire menu. Service is very quick, and if you're in a hurry, you can place an order in advance. There's limited indoor seating, but they do have picnic tables in the back outside.

This fish was absolutely incredible! It not only satisfied my craving for fish and chips but also exceeded all my expectations. The portions were huge, and I struggled to finish even half of one piece before needing to pause and give my stomach a rest—which was definitely the last thing I wanted to do! The coleslaw was fantastic, the best I’ve ever had along the Jersey shore. If you’re in search of an authentic fish market with truly outstanding beer-battered fish, look no further—this is your gem!

The food was delicious and light. The fish was outstanding. I tried nearly everything on the menu and I will definitely be back. The food is excellent, and there's a great variety to choose from. The staff is very attentive and responsive. While it's on the expensive side, I believe it’s worth the price.
