the shipwrights is not the cozy, characterful, atmospheric men pub I remember. it is much better! always known for good business and better beer, it was beautifully renovated with a surprisingly functional and spacious layout. good ventilation? .. fresh and ozone rich from the Irish sea directly above the road. when they come from the train from the rest of the world, the shipwright welcomes them as an oasis in the desert. that was traditionally the stop for new fathers who were just released from the motherhood station in the west cumberland hospital and back to the "jam eater" land wuckinton and scaryport and the wilderness further north. the shipwright was the watering hole for whitehaven...
