Despite references to awards, it seems to me a fairly ordinary ice cream shop. The woman who served us did not go out of her way to be friendly. There was nothing wrong with the ice creams but nothing fantastic about them either. They only put one stamp on a loyalty card for three ices and as we only come to Ballater once a year, it will perhaps be my little grandson who gets the free one after I've gone. There's nowhere else to buy that sort of ice cream in Ballater, so I guess they don't have to try too hard.
Arrived in Ballater at the start of a holiday (staying in Dinnet) on a glorious sunny day. Having just bought provisions from nearby H.M. Sheridan butchers, it would have been rude not to taste the local ice creams. Wow the waffle cones are huge, crisp and yummy alone but the massive scoop of vanilla was to die for. My partner had mint chop chip, which was as equally big and scrumptious. Can't recommend high enough.
I came across Shortys advent calendars on Facebook and decided to order one for myself and one for my sister. The packages arrived well wrapped and the scent of fudge is delightful. Each day's treat has been incredibly tasty. The only downside is trying to resist eating all of them at once.
I really enjoy a high-quality ice cream, and Shorty's definitely delivers on that front. They have a variety of flavors to choose from, and I especially enjoyed the chocolate cherry ripple - it was delicious! I highly recommend this place, and the portion sizes are generous as well.

The ice cream here is a real treat you can taste the freshness! A variety of flavours to cover all tastes the more unusual are gummy bear; candy floss, bubblegum and liquorice! I’m a regular visitor to Ballater and Shorty’s is a great addition to the town.
I love this place, always too many flavours to choose from! The staff are friendly and helpful. Loved chatting to them about the different flavours. I wasn't so keen on their Banarama (vegan) ice cream, but worth a try for something different.
This was one of the places we wanted to visit in Ballater. The queues when we arrived wee testament to the product. The scoops were massive and the quality excellent. I would say the price was fair for the size of the portion
The ice cream was good and there were quite a few interesting flavours. The ice cream scoops were a good size so worth the money. There were vegan and gluten-free ice creams that were really good.

This restaurant offers delicious and affordable ice cream, perfect for enjoying after a hike at Ballater Pass. Five stars.
Fantastic flavoured ice cream generous scoops of ice cream in a crispy waffle cone. Staff were very efficient and polite.
