Skimmington Castle

We live in front of this place and love this pub. We often stop for drinks and lunch. We knew they had great rooms, so we decided to book a large room for a family celebration and birthdays. Our group included children, including teenagers, as well as a celiac who cannot tolerate milk. We were given a beautiful room in one of the garden rooms which we decorated with balloons and table decorations. The pub was very accommodating in helping us meet our dietary requirements and allowed us to pre-order our food. Visited for a Sunday roast as adults and child and was really disappointed. I should say firstly, the waiting staff were friendly and polite although clearly very busy, the table and surroundings were very nice too but the food wasn’t up to scratch....We had roasts, the beef was over cooked and included thin slices; the pork was similarly small with a lump of paxo and burnt stick of crackling. There were plenty of veg but one plate with carrot/swede mash, red cabbage and peas was cold. They didn’t have the only desert of interest (mars brownie) and only vanilla or strawberry ice cream flavours. The apple and pear crumble was sour and came with a tiny portion of custard. When I arrived was greeted by a very grumpy waiter who was rude because he could not understand what I was ordering( I am British from Reigate so no accent) We waited minutes outside and no one came, when i asked the said in...ten minutes but it was very clear they had no clue I had even ordered. The food cam after i hour and the best I can say is it was hot, tased like pre-frozen commercial **** we had the fish pies each costing go with beers all in we paid close to something pounds and it was a very poor and very expensive experience. All young kids working the the girls seem polite but the make waiter needs a good kicking up the ...... I do not recommend this place much better and cheaper...

Whole family get together for belated Xmas gathering. Chosen because of Trip Advisor ratings not disappointed. There is a bar but it’s more restaurant than pub. How they can feed so many so well at the same time escapes me. Loads of staff all running...around keeping customers happy. Plenty of well cooked, not inexpensive food to cater for down to Lou was superb and looked after us all well. Only very minor downside is that you don’t need to be in a rush on a Sunday. as a group of three we decided to eat at the sky and what a tasty bite. we arrived as a big party older ladies, so it was busy. we had waited a little because it was obvious that they were short-circuited;. something that occurs in all the best restaurants. the food was fantastic, nicely cooked, presented and delicious, desfinitiw the wait worth. I have to apologize for one of our parties, who unfortunately was impatient and harassed the personal. however, the staff treated the older dame beautifully and apologised for waiting.

The restaurant offers delicious food and excellent service with a friendly attitude. Our group of 15 had all our meals served at the same time. I would highly recommend trying the Sunday roasts. The prices are very reasonable and the young staff are both friendly and efficient. Just be cautious of the potholes on the road leading up to the pub!

I had an amazing Sunday dinner at this restaurant. Some of us tried the roast dinners while I had the roast beef sandwich with chips. The food was incredible and the service was top-notch. Everything was homemade, the atmosphere was unbelievable, and the staff were great. You have to check this place out.

Exceptionally rude and bad mannered staff. Avoid! Had arranged this a while ago for a family get together and really regret it
