I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, which came with two sides—I went with collard greens and black-eyed peas—plus cornbread. The vibe at Smokin' J's is laid-back, kind of like a Grateful Dead concert parking lot, but in a good way. I might have missed the cornbread because I was chatting with the owner while she prepared my meal, but that was fine since I’m on keto and hadn’t planned to eat it anyway.
The pulled pork was excellent, with authentic pit flavor—not that artificial liquid smoke or pellet taste you sometimes get. The collard greens were some of the best I've had, and the black-eyed peas, though simple, were tasty. The coleslaw was also really good. I took a chocolate chip cookie...
This is a great barbecue spot run by a family near Mount Snow. I ordered the pork nachos while my husband had the pulled pork with two sides. The portion sizes are generous for the reasonable prices. Everything is made fresh to order for takeout. I wish there was an option to dine in, but it seems they only have a takeout permit. The surroundings used to be a gift shop, so the decor still reflects that vibe, but it’s not a problem. They also offer some snacks, basic items, and beer to complement your barbecue. It’s truly a one-stop shop!
First, I’m really glad to have food options back in Marlboro. The coleslaw was flavorful, and the side salad was fresh, topped with real bacon bits—a pleasant surprise. The baked beans were excellent, loaded with shredded pork and a perfect sweet-and-tangy balance. The rib meat fell off the bone easily; it was very good, though a bit dry, but the BBQ sauce fixed that right up. The only downside was the cornbread, which was quite dry, but it didn’t spoil the experience. I’ll definitely be back and look forward to trying more dishes!
These folks make really excellent BBQ! The deli operation is growing, too, but it's the BBQ that keeps me coming back. BBQ ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken. I've had BBQ in Memphis, on Chicago's South Side, in Georgia, all over Texas, and, as far as I'm concerned, Smokin J's can smoke with anyone and is the best BBQ place within hundreds of miles of Marlboro. Go check it out; you won't be disappointed.

My experience was fairly average. The building feels old and rundown, and they only make use of a small part of the space. The lighting is dim, and although it seemed clean, it didn’t really come across that way. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly. The ribs were okay, but the side dishes lacked creativity. It’s not the best BBQ I’ve had, but it’s not the worst either.

Just a heads up, the owners have opened a new location, Smokin J's BBQ, which is now available for takeout in Marlboro, VT, at 1796 Route 9. They're open every day from 11 AM to 8 PM, but closed on Tuesdays. You can reach them at 802-251-6067. Same wonderful owners—great people and amazing food!
Absolutely deliriously good BBQ. We've known them from when they were in Wilmington, but the new digs are excellent. We had 2 whole slabs, a BBQ chicken, and pulled pork that we used for sandwiches well after our visit. Great from start to finish! So glad you are back!
The food was incredible! The pulled pork dinner came with a generous serving, along with two sides and cornbread, which was delightful! While we waited for our meal, we had a great time playing ping-pong. I highly recommend this restaurant!
