The authenticity of food in this restaurant was oversold! My partner and I had heard many raving reviews of this eatery. Pictures of beautiful decor and neatly dressed plates of food convinced us to dine there on New Years 2016. However we were thoroughly disappointed with the food and the pricing as it didn't reflect the quality that should have been served. Southern Aroma is a relatively newcomer to the food scene in the Greater Toronto Area. It boasts of dishes from the Indian subcontinent and northern Sri Lanka. The interior is simple but very South Asian, with statues of Hindu gods etc adorning various locations. Water is served in copper stainless steel tumblers, which is quite interesting because traditionally in some parts of India and Sri Lanka, you are not supposed to drink off a tumbler with your lips touching its edge. Today was our third visit to this restaurant as a family, as we have always enjoyed the food and flavors in the past. However, on our last two visits, we noticed a decrease in the quality of the food. Today, the Briyani dish had a strange taste and we found pieces of chicken mixed in the sambhar rice or bisebelabath. The chicken seemed to be fried in the same oil as fish, as we could smell fish in the chicken. This was concerning as one of our family members has a seafood allergy. I am a promoter of this type of Srilankan Cusine and always find something is lacking at their end. Food taste is not consistence and all the food are not available all the time. I like their Vegi Thaali. Nice environment to take your family. I visited the place in winter and the floor was so cold. Front and side doors were bringing lot of cold air and our feet were freezing.Hope the management will take care of this problem in future. Otherwise nice little place to take your friends or relatives for a relaxed meal.

I catered from Southern Aroma for my Daughter's Birthday Party and the Cuisine is absolutely tasty. They make individualized dishes and not massive production and this makes it unique from the rest of Sri Lankan/Indian Cuisines. The Chilli Gardein Chicken - a Vegetarian Dish made with Soy was Awesome and their Chicken Biryani is worth the Try. They are my choice for Catering next event. My Friends enjoyed the unique tastes that other Catering Restaurants fail to do. Awesome food and Thank You Chef.

We had lunch thali at this restaurant. The food items served along with the thali were really had authentic Chennai taste. There was one dish with mugali flaour. Special meat item served needs attention for improvement. Overall nice play to visit for nice Chennai flavor foods.

Higly recommended a place for a Sri lankan & South Indian food and absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing setup.. The best choice for family and bussiness dinning..who loves Lankan flavor... Keep up the good work guys!
