Once upon a time, one of the gems of Alameda. Recent ownership changes have dramatically cut staff and slowed down service. The food has crawled up five dollars an item and the portions have shrunk by a third, on average, and while their cooks continue to make some great food, they are often out of their most popular items. The beer selection is still incredible and if you’re JUST going for a drink, it continues to be a great place to sit and watch a game. But the dinner and lunch that used to be worth it, is gone. Morn it, but it’s time to move on, Speisekammer is gone.
The atmosphere was pure Germanic and the food was delicious. The Reuben sandwich was crispy on top but the bottom bread was soggy, like it was sitting for a very very long time. Besides that, the flavor was good. TOTALLY skip the pretzel dumplings. They were like day old matza balls. The service was excellent.
They have a great beer assortment. Their weiner schnitzel was fantastic and a healthy portion size. Never thought you could find an authentic German resto in Cal. If you are vegetarian or vegan I would not recommend this place. It was pretty packed too and service was amazing.
This might be my favorite Friday night to have in the East Bay: eating delicious comfort food, drinking exceptional beer, and watching Mitch Polzak rock and twang like nobody's business. Just a great night. Thank you, Speisekammer.

What a terrific hidden gem in Alameda. Great food, lots of drink options, super friendly and accommodating people! Definitely will be back again. It’s worth the trip from San Jose!
Sorry to say the rouladen was a huge disappointment for the price of $36.00. Barely edible, but the beer was good and cold. Parking was an issue. I will not be eating there again.
