If you are only going to eat in one or two places in Chambery, please look harder. Before we ordered I wandered over to the buffet station but noticed tired and dried out looking plates that had probably been fresh at lunchtime. So we opted for other menu items. We were hopeful as we sat down for steak-frites "avec sa petite salade" and the truite meunière. The steak was slightly over cooked but tasty. However the green pepper sauce for an extra 4 euros was just a gloppy brownish mass and not very appetizing. The steak and fries was accompanied by 2 small leaves of parched lettuce. The trout was bland, with soggy spinach and extremely plain rice. Least appetizing of all, a small slug was laboring slowly across the lettuce leaves that came with the trout. I pushed it onto the table and pointed out the unexpected guest to the waitress. She brought a napkin and removed the slug, but that was all. A few minutes later a small bowl of lettuce arrived but we didn't feel like taking the chance that the creature had been living alone in the salad bar.The waitress avoided us for the next 20 minutes and abruptly brought the bill, didn't ask about dessert or coffee, but also didn't try to apologize or say anything that might make us give this place a second chance. Maybe Le Sporting satisfies some diners but it would be a real shame to limit yourself to this in a town with as many choices as Chambery.
