We have been patrons of Saint Kilda for sometime now and enjoy their food but our service this weekend and treatment by their hostess compelled me to send a review. We had booked a reservation for my husbands birthday (12 plus 3 high chairs. and found out we would have two additional guests join us us so I immediately called to see if we could squeeze in two additional chairs since some of the group were our young grandchildren. The hostess said the restaurant was completely full and suggested we go elsewhere, which for us 30 minutes before brunch was not an option. We had lunch on Monday to celebrate some family birthdays, but unfortunately, our experience was less than satisfactory. The server initially forgot our drinks, which took a long time to arrive. After waiting half an hour for our food, the server informed us that they were out of gluten-free bread and asked if we wanted to change our order. It would have been helpful if she had mentioned this when we ordered, as it caused us to wait an additional 20 minutes for the new dishes. After that, she brought out two salads for two people at our table, but the third salad came several minutes later. Been here twice for lunch. Had chicken sandwich. Had to send it back. Chicken thigh was gristly and chewy. Ordered a burger instead don’t remember anything about it. Not very busy but Service was slow. Second visit same slow service. Ordered spinach eggs Benedict. Tasty but not very hot. My meal came out minutes before my specialty coffee drink. Would have preferred to sip coffee before the meal. A challenge to get salt and pepper. Not very busy had to ask to sit by the window. Much better than the two seater next to the kitchen I was offered . If I managed a restaurant I would fill window seats first. Passerby‘s can see restaurant is busy?
Attractive and tasty breakfast. Busy but fast seating. Clean, simple, and modern atmosphere with interesting menu items to choose from. I had the Turkish scrambled eggs which were so flavorful and presented so beautifully that someone who just walked in asked me what I ordered as they were excited to get one as well. This was a cute restaurant. The food was fresh and tasty but it’s just shy of hitting the mark. I got the fish tacos and while the flavors were good they were really mild and got lost once you bit into the fish. The avocado toast was also yummy but the toast was tough and the flavors were again yummy but forgettable. It needs a little bit more… umph.Edit: they added a credit card fee to the bill without telling us. I appreciate transparency in pricing so this was not cool. FYI
A comfy and modern atmosphere with so much natural light. Might have some of the best coffee in Des Moines! The chia and mocha were delicious. The food was delicious with the salmon and eggs having tons of flavor. And the breakfast sandwich had several layers crispy and thick meat.I will frequent St. Kilda for sure. Also some good dairy and gluten free options.
I ordered the crumpets with bacon, eggs, and a coffee. The crumpets were incredible as well as the coffee. But the overeasy eggs and bacon were both terribly overcooked and very lacking compared to the crumpets. I will be back again because of theatmosphere, service and wonderful crumpets, but I hope next time the rest of my breakfast will be up to par.
Went for a birthday lunch with my bestie. We both wanted to try 2 things so we asked for an extra plate to share and they split it for us! It really is the little things! The Brekkie burrito was to die for with fresh chunks of Avocado and thick bacon.. the burger was fresh and so juicy. Ate more fries than intended as they were superb. We will be back! Awesome experience here. Had a 9 month old with me sleeping on my lap and had workers asking constantly if I needed help. I believe it was the owner who ended up offering to get him scrambled eggs when he woke up. Not only was the food phenomenal but the staff went above and beyond. Can't wait to go back.
