The first time we went to Sukh Sagar I wanted the Masala Dosa and the eggplant dish and I was thrilled with them. The dosa comes out of the kitchen looking like a magical golden scroll: you expect it to contain the Ten Commandments, or something at least as important. And it eats as good as it looks: no disappointment lurks in its depths, thank heavens! The eggplant dish is glorious: discs of eggplant with a slight crusty texture, swathed in yoghurt and imli chutney, topped with little wiggles of crunchy sev: glorious. We also had Vada Sambar, a lovely dish with similar accompaniments to the dosa but substantial where the dosa is airy, and we SHOULD have stopped there, but Himself had ordered Vegetables Hariyali, so we had to eat it, didn't we. We had also ordered a jug of salted lassi (because we could!) which washed down what felt like an enormous amount of food. Then we rumbled off into the night, well-pleased with our meal.Fast forward a week or so, and interstate family visited, so back to Sukh Sagar we went. This time I was (sorta) forwarned, and I explained to our gusts that in this eatery, too much is more than we needed. I urged them to moderation. This no sooner said than ignored! We had to have Masala Dosa (I had been bragging about it for days) , we must include the eggplant Chef's Special. The kitchen eagerly got into the spirit of it all, and the eggplant had FOUR pieces of eggplant, not the customary three. Two people ordered Dahi Puri, and I couldn't help them both, could I?I think some lunatic ordered Dal Makhani, and I went mad and ordered Shahi Panir along with the jug of lassi. There were four of us, all large people, but the food was just too much for us. We ate valiantly, and managed to choke down an unnecessary Kulfi, which the sweet people in the kitchen sent out with four spoons and extra little dishes, bless them.I look forward to returning tonight, when I hope to behave better, but I really want to try the Pani Puri.
