After reading the many rave reviews my expectations were much higher than Summer Salt delivered. The garden board did not have much taste. The veggies were just raw veggies, nothing impressive! The tomato salad was good, The clams were flavorless and sandy. The sauce looked and tasted like dish water! Very surprising since many gave the clams rave reviews. The cucumber crostini along with the peach and burrata were good but for the price of $85 I would expect more substantial choices. The entrees, I had the crab cacio e Pepe and the pork chop very tasty but still not and $85 meal. I wasn’t impressed with the service either, They would collect our old plates as they delivered our next course....
It's a BYOB establishment, so we brought a bottle of white wine to complement our seafood dishes. Both the service and atmosphere were excellent, and the food was truly exceptional! Our server informed us that the ingredients are sourced from local vendors and farms, which means the menu changes regularly; you can really taste the freshness in every bite. The meal was a four-course prix fixe menu. My absolute favorite dishes were the snap pea salad with whipped ricotta and the Cape May scallops. Summer Salt was beautiful. We sat in the covered patio with a 645 reversion so we ended the meal just after sunset. The staff we very attentive. We went for the 85 per person prix fix. The food was the reason I only gave 4 stars. The starter veggie board was fine, but just had some veggies and two dips. Nothing special, no amazing new veggies. Tomatoes, cucumber, some nuts. Then the appetizer was the star of the evening, all four were delicious, but the peaches with burrata was just incredible. And huge portions of all four dishes. Summer Salt may be the best restaurant I've experienced in Avalon. The menu is exceptionally well-crafted and thoughtfully prepared by the chef and his team. Every dish complements one another beautifully, and the pacing of the meal is spot-on. The scallops were among the finest I’ve ever tasted. The owners are incredibly warm and personable, going out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our meal. It truly felt like we were in their home, with them preparing a special dinner just for us. This is a must-do dining event while at the shore. There is nothing like it in Avalon or anywhere in the South Jersey beaches. We felt like we were transported to paradise. Please make a reservation in advance. What an incredible menu and excellent service. The staff went above and beyond to curate a true dining experience. Locally sourced food and the owner came up to us personally to check in on us. We went at 7:45 and requested the outdoor deck to be at dusk in June and have amazing views of the beach backlit by the sunset.
Elegant, simple and flawless. Local, fresh, seasonal prix fixie menu that's continually being refreshed. Scallops done to perfection. Inherent flavor in the quality ingredients brought out and presented wonderfully on each plate by the chef/owner. All with an Avalon beachfront view. Indoor, covered patio and outdoor deck seating available. BYOB.
Four of us had an amazing meal. It is BYOB so bring your favorite beverage. You won?t be disappointed. We enjoyed every course served from the initial tasting plate through to the desert course. We left very full so don?t worry that you might still be hungry afterwards. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommended!
