I have been spoiled by excellent Vietnamese in my travels, and Long Island is definitely an area where this excellent cuisine is underrepresented. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the staff are kind. The food is definitely fresh with fresh ingredients. The pho was good. Broth definitely had care, though it could have been a little more flavorful and the star anise was a little strong. I have had better, but it scratched the itch. The Banh mi is only available at limited times and it is not customizable (such as a chicken option) nor is it traditional (such as including pate. Or if it did have pate, I couldn't taste it). The daikon was excellent, and the bread was flavorful with the right consistency. For me it was the meat that was the let-down. Pretty good Vietnamese for the area, and hopefully it's the first of many. IMHO, if SUP works to improve its recipes, it might be able to compete with Hancos in Brooklyn.
