I love Ice Monster as it 's a famous snow dessert place from Taiwan, but my experience at this Waikiki location was pretty horrendous. First of all, it took almost an hour wait for us to get our desserts. To be fair, I think the place was understaffed as there were only 2 employees working at the time and a ton of customers, but I also didn 't fully understand how it was that slow...Second of all, they started running out of ingredients but still charged the full price of the dessert! They did ask us if we would like to sub for other toppings but some of the toppings were key so the dessert wasn 't the same without them. Overall, it was just a disappointing experience. Decided to try this place after seeing a 15% off offer in Oahu's best coupons which I found at a stands (you can find it online too! . Greeted warmly by the staff, Ava. She helped us decide between the matcha and the mango, by letting us know that the matcha was more of the traditional sweet, but she could make the mango more sweet by adding condensed milk. Ended up deciding on the matcha snow since I usually don't see black sesame sorbets offered with snow so that was unique to me. Got a small size which honestly for me was a good size to share between 2 people after a hearty dinner. Pricey compared to traditional shave ice, but portions are big and you can share . Real fruit with just the right amount of sweetness. I couldn't stop eating eventhough it was 9:30 at night and I had just had a full meal. I prefer this to ice cream not only because I'm lactose intolerant but because it's lighter, healthier, and tastes better to me! Monster ice is finely shaved and melts in your mouth. Sooo good l! The shaved ice here is absolutely delicious! It’s made solely from fruit and natural flavors. They use a large cylindrical block of frozen juice and shave it extremely thin. The small size is generous enough to share between two people. It comes topped with a scoop of mango sorbet and an Italian pudding. The location in Waikiki is very convenient, but the service was somewhat lacking. The staff didn’t smile or engage in conversation, even though we were the only ones in line. I was excited to get shaved ice in Hawaii, and this place lived up well to my expectations. Fast service from the counter, and you can watch the machines make your shaved ice right there. I appreciate that the shaved ice is flavored all the way through; I know some places just drizzle syrup over plain shaved ice and it leaves some ice unflavored. The place is nice and modern, featuring artwork of its mascot, and there were plenty of tables inside the air conditioned building.The mango sensation tasted really good! A yogurt center and real mango chunks compliment the actual shaved ice.
Ice Monster offered an amazing experience with its unique take on shaved ice. We tried the strawberry and matcha flavors, and the premium toppings that accompanied both were perfectly matched to enhance the overall taste. The service was prompt after placing our orders, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Just a heads up, the atmosphere can be quite loud, so be prepared for that. The decor is trendy and fun as well. I highly recommend Ice Monster as a great dessert spot, and I’d suggest bringing some friends along to share since the portion sizes are quite large.
The mango-flavored ice was absolutely delicious, refreshing, and full of flavor! It also came with a scoop of mango sorbet, coconut jelly, and fresh mango pieces. The atmosphere is very inviting, and the music is at just the right volume. We thoroughly enjoyed our treat! I will definitely be returning! This is definitely a spot to check out whether you're visiting or live in Honolulu!
