We stopped for lunch here twice and had their menu of the day each time (6 euros). The options are listed on the blackboard outside (seems like usually there are two options). The first day we had beef steak with orange sauce which was good but the second days stewed veal with potatoes was excellent. We also tried their pudim caseiro for desert (like a flan) which was so good. The owner was there on the first day and he was very friendly. There is some english spoken by the wait staff as well. Can get very busy with locals stopping in for their lunch breaks. Highly recommended!
A repeat visit to re-try this rustic restaurant. Bife a Casa for 2. A piece of steak topped with ham cheese plus a fried egg. Sweet potatoes as garnish. The steak looked and tasted more boiled than fried or grilled. Not good. An otherwise very acceptable piece of meat spoiled. The staff is very friendly and they recognized us from an earlier visit. Because of this, we were offered a digestif on the house with our coffee which was an excellent gesture.
Hoje comemos neste restaurante, e a verdade é que recomendo 100% A comida, um bacalhau na Taberna da María, estava deliciosa. O ambiente daquele lugar merece nota 10, mas o mais importante para criar um ambiente tão agradável é o gerente do restaurante, uma pessoa muito simpática. Qualidade e preço de seus produtos, nota 10. Se voltar a Viseu, sem dúvida voltarei a visitar La Taberna D' María.
Had a nice lunch here after a too brief visit to Viseu. The food was fine nothing to write home about but the service! So friendly and helpful. Just a very nice place to go and we were really made to feel that our business was appreciated. Nothing major but you realize that good service is actually something pretty special.
