If you are in or near Ennis, please go here. Let me tell you how awesome the owner is. My wife and I were flying out from South Carolina to celebrate her 40th birthday. I wanted to surprise her with a cake when we got there but I struggled to find a baker long distance. I ran across this place on google and emailed the owner. He responded with something like We 've got you covered. Just tell us what you need and we 'll do it. On our drive in from the airport we picked up the cake and it was perfect, and a very reasonable price. Three days later, after a long day at Yellowstone, we wanted a good meal so we stopped in Tavern 287. The place, at that moment, was almost empty, but Bruce said he couldn 't seat us because all the tables were reserved and would be full in the next 30 minutes or so. We understood and were about to leave, but then I thanked him for the awesome cake a few days earlier. Once he remembered who we were, and that it was my wife 's birthday, he fit us in and at the window seat! We felt very special and honored! Ok, so he was great. But the food my wife got the homemade ravioli and it was the best ravioli I 've ever tried. Her beet salad looked amazing as well but I didn 't try it. I was too busy eating hush puppies and braised elk with risotto. To say that the food is fantastic is an understatement. I mean, I was expecting the hush puppies to be run of the mill, but they were anything but. And the flavors of the elk, demi glace, spices, and whatever else was in the risotto let you know that the chef (and the owner) are the real deal. I went home wondering how a restaurant like that is in Ennis (nothing against Ennis, of course). All in all, super nice owner, fantastic food. What more could you ask for?
