The decor was beautifully decked out with traditional pictures. Unlike most Asian restsurants, it is spacious and conducive to good dinner conversations. However, I think the quality of food has let it down.The menu was quite big with a good variety, so was the wine list. We had a shared entree plate which was not memorable. For the main, we had a massamun curry which was much, much too sweet and starchy. You could see the gravy was prepared well in advance, with the meat thrown in when an order came in. This restaurant is set on the first floor of the Woden Southern Cross Club. It's well air conditioned on these hot nights and the ambience is up market with tables set well apart and with very nice table settings. Whilst the cocktails aren't the best we'd had, the menu and food were extremely good. It's not the place I'd take young children but it's a great venue for a couples or an adult group night out. The service was good but not great although definitely acceptable and the Thai food was good quality in a great setting. I will definitely be going back.
The beautiful, traditional décor in the restaurant led us into a false sense that the food would match. Not so. We ordered our favourite green curry and mussamun, both of which were mostly watery soup. The Patt Thai was good and the wine list is also good. I read the other positive reviews here and can only wonder if we rocked up on the only night the chef was away? Having been to Thailand many times, I know what good Thai food is, sadly, the Thai Chiang Rai Woden did not live up to my expectations.
My wife and I arrived in woden with an appetite and we headed to Thai Chang Rai Woden, located within The Canberra southern Cross club. Our service was excellent from the easy on site parking to the friendly welcome that we received, food was delicious, fresh and filling the atmosphere was relaxing and put us in mood to eat. We had a bottle of 2013 Brokenwood "Cricket pitch" which went down well. This is an excellent eatery true to its cuisine.. Great place to spend our weekend get away.

We have visited Thai Chiang Rai at Woden Southern Cross Club twice during the last few weeks. We loved having traditional Thai food in the 'fine dinning' atmosphere - quiet and not overcrowded like most of Thai restaurants I know. There were 5 of us sharing the food so we could sample several dishes. We enjoyed all of them. Soft Shell Crab and Macadamia Scallops were outstanding so were Chilli Mussels and Thai Basil and Chilli Duck. We will be back for more soon!
This is one of the more pricey Thai restaurants I have been to but the food was average at best, with meat so chewy it got stuck in our teeth. Flavours were not what we expected. The dishes were served so slowly to a table of 6 that some were finished before others had received their food. The steamed rice, which normally appears first, never appeared at all. We may have picked a bad night but I won't be trying again.
I got a good offer off living social so I gave this Thai restaurant a try ,well it was good ,and I had to go back the next week and it was still the best.now I have tried it again it is still amazing .The chili mussels and the duck leg with figs are to die for,also they are generous dishes .we will be back again thank you
We had a Business Dinner here and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. We order the buffet and food kept coming. We had the place to ourselves being Wednesday night. The food was great and good sized portions.Overall good place to dine if you don't want to sit downstairs.

I recommend the seafood, I had the macadamia scallop and coconut prawns, it was superb! We also had the roast chicken which was full of flavor! I will be back again soon.
