We called in here towards the end of their lunch time opening but were still warmly greeted by the owner who invited us to stay for lunch even though it was nearly closing time.Several other customers were still there finishing their meals and as they left, staff were quick to clear up and completely clean the table. Ours was spotless but the owner still came over and wiped it down again just before we sat sown.Originating from the UK we knew we wanted haddock and chips with a side of mushy peas and we was not disappointed when it arrived. The haddock was a good, full size fillet, lightly batted and deep fired. The chips are cut from organic, locally grown potatoes. These are as real as you get when it comes to chips - not fries. Cooked perfectly, not at all greasy.I really liked the mushy peas as they were cooked, my wife prefers them a little sweeter and added some sugar. The peas are genuine dried marrow fat and made in to mushy peas on site by the owner. Definitely worth ordering and I am glad we did. Before we began eating we had considered having a desert too but half way through we were both happy to say that we couldn’t manage anything further. As is the tradition, we had our fish n chip lunch with a pot of tea which was refilled to give enough tea for the two of us having abut 3 - 4 cups each. The decor inside in tasteful and not over the top. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and tidy. There is an outside patio area that I saw as we walked up. This business is on the old Main Street of Okotoks, away from the big box stores but I would recommend that you pay them a visit. Lots of parking was available either on-street or in small carparks within a very short walk. The owner was also our server and was pleasantly chatty without being intrusive. She was very knowledgable and provided us with a 10% discount when she found out my wife was also a teacher. We don’t visit this are very often but when we do, we will certainly be paying another visit.Other reviews have comments on the price. Compared to chain restaurants, the price is very comparable - except the food quality at The British Chippy is far superior.
