This may have been an off day, but the awards, pictures and reviews had us expecting great things. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Menu reads well and lots of choice even for a Sunday lunch like we had today. Sadly the food was mediocre, not very warm, and quite bland. Maybe it was the 4pm time and being in between main service times, but the food felt like it had been sitting for some time. On a plus side the meat (I had the trio) was good, the potatoes and vegetables not so good. Great atmosphere in the main bar and looked to be a a well liked cosy village pub for a drink or two. The Chicken Milanese was a standout dish, featuring subtle flavors that were both surprising and delightful. The use of local produce is a clear advantage for this kitchen. With an extensive menu, it would be hard to leave disappointed.
It's also obvious that the waiting staff take pride in their work; they were attentive and well-informed about the menu, making us feel welcome and at ease. I have no hesitation in planning a return visit.
Price per person: £40–50. Recommended dishes: Steak and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Nice service, nice food, tho the beef Wellington is more of a stewing steak than a fillet (which it states to be fair) it was presented well and had nice flavours. Would eat here again. This was my first visit to the restaurant. The menu is relatively small (especially if you exclude burgers, which aren't my favorite), but the dishes I chose were excellent. The service was outstanding—professional yet not overly formal and done with a sense of humor!
