Me and my partner decided to stop off in Bath after a weekend away and we were both very eager for a Sunday roast. After scrawling Bath's reddit page we stumbled on Chequers which definitely lived up to expectations. We grazed on Scallops for starters (which were eaten too quickly for a picture to be taken) which were incredibly succulent and had a lovely garlic butter glaze. My partner is only really a fan of Chicken in a roast so to have this was a big win as it's not often pubs do a Chicken roast. All the food was delicious and the servers were polite and efficient. I just popped here to have a drink outside with my husband and son. Unfortunately, it seems the manager is a man on some sort of power trip. I went inside to use the bathroom and perhaps he thought that I was not a paying customer, and shouted aggressively at me as I made my way downstairs ‘ARE YOU OK???’ When I explained I was just using the toilet he mumbled something about me just ignoring him and walking past the bar. I mean, if he did speak to me and I didn’t hear him, is that really a reason to shout at me in front of the restaurant… his whole demeanour was unwelcoming and unfriendly and it just left a bad taste in my mouth about the place sadly.
8 of us went for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The roast dinners were absolutely delicious especially the crackling on the pork, the Yorkshire puddings and the leeks in cheese sauce! I cannot praise their customer service enough the staff were all very friendly and helpful on the day but, on top of that, we had a slight issue which I emailed about the same day and it was resolved within half an hour. Very professional and customer related. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying some different foods. Thank you all SO much for helping to make my husband's birthday so special.
Updated review, March 2024. The food was pleasant. Oysters special with wild garlic oil, seasonal and interesting. Steak well cooked medium rare, the peppercorn sauce tasty but perhaps a little too centre stage. Fine pub-style, chunky triple-cooked chips. Lovely focaccia but I have to say a bit disappointing, on a £100 meal, to be told that a little extra butter would come at an extra charge (exacerbated then be presented with automated tip options of 12.5, 15 and 20% .

Really delicious food with very attentive service. Highly recommend, especially the gnocchi. We got the bread and butter (delicious), Cantabrian anchovies (very good), pig cheek terrine (very good), triple cooked chips (were ok, a bit soft), pan fried duck breast (good but could have used a touch more salt), and pan fried gnocchi (AMAZING, truly unforgettable). We also got the vanilla creme brulee and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, both were great.
I recently dined at The Chequers restaurant and had an outstanding experience, largely thanks to the exceptional service provided by Ashleigh and Veda. Their attentiveness and knowledge of the menu elevated our evening. The food was high quality and delicious, delivering balance and creativity with each dish. Thank you for making our visit memorable Recommend the Lamb and scallops also, don't give the bread a miss!!! 5*
Fantastic venue, felt more like fine dining than pub. It was so lovely! Love that you can see the chefs in the kitchen from the upstairs seating area. The scallops are divine and trust me, your gonna want to try the bread. It is delicious. I will definitely be back, and continue to sing your praises. I had a great time, thank you to the team.
Wonderful from start to finish. Amazing food, good wine list, and great location. But it’s the staff that really made this visit top notch. They strike just the right balance between professional, knowledgeable and efficient, but also friendly and chatty. Will definitely be back, and I’d encourage anyone to try it.
