This was not my first visit to The Chequers, but unfortunately it will be my last. The service was last lustre and slow. The food was generally good with generous portion sizes, but vegetable sides were cold and some things we ordered never arrived. The restaurant area lacked atmosphere and our large party was sat spread over three round tables pushed together so we were strangely arranged. The table appeared to have been set in haste, with limited cutlery and no side plates or glasses provided, even though I had booked well in advance. I'm sorry, but the food here is terrible!I ordered creamy, wild mushroom pasta and received noodles that were mixed with double cream with 1 flat mushroom cut in 6 on top.They couldn't be even bothered to season it.It was absolutely disgusting.I obviously sent it back and ordered chicken burger which arrived about 45 min later and it was as bad.My boyfriend ordered roast beef ,as it was Sunday but he wasn't impressed either.The service wasn't great either.We had to go back to the bar every time when we needed something-more drinks etc. It was probably one of the worst meals I've ever had and would definitely not recommend this place.

Waiting time for meal was poor, the carvery itself was lovely. An error was made with the bill only charged us for drinks (we could have walked out! But honesty is the best policy so we addressed this error was asked for the full price. I asked if we could receive any discount for being honest not just walking out? The manager was kind enough to give us 25% discount. So being honest on this occasion was rewarded. Many thanks for the lovely meal discount.

Location is good, parking difficult though. Food was a carvery and ok but the guy carving the joints of meat was very inexperienced and was hacking the meats with a blunt bread knife. All in all it was friendly and a nice family restaurant

We sat outside in the sunshine overlooking the river. Staff were attentive and our food was plenty and delicious leaving no room for any pudding! Dog friendly too.

Great food and service. Had the vegetarian tai green curry superb. Dining partner had pizza said it was very tasty. Will both come again.

Lovely historic pub, atmospheric and friendly. Great food and lots of it. Will definitely be going back.

Unexpected visit on a monday lunch time. Staff spot on! Steak was fabulous!
