The Crown Fakenham

Decided to try the Crown in Fakenham as they do a Carvery on a Sunday, but what swayed us even more to go there was they allow dogs and there is a Dog Menu. We did phone a couple of days before to make sure we would get a table, which was in the bar because we were taking our dog. On arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming and showed us to our table. We ordered drinks non alcoholic for me and a coke for the wife, and ordered and paid for our Carvery at the same time. Our dog had a Carvery too he could choose between Beef or Turkey, he had the Turkey with roast spuds, veg and Yorkshire pudding obviously no gravy. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I don't know where they got the photos for their website but they are fake! The hotel, rooms food are NOTHING LIKE the pictures. Everything seems to be done as cheap as possible, Sunday carvery was tasteless, and to describe the Yorkshire puddings, made me feel sick! The buffet breakfast was a little better, but no fresh fruit on offer and only 3 what I'd describe as unhealthy sugary Cereals and only cheap plastic dishes. I had dinner at the restaurant called The Crown. The food was delightful, and everything was cooked to perfection. The rosemary chips were large yet wonderfully crispy in all the right spots. It was quite quiet since it was the first Monday they were open for dinner, but we were still served with the same level of care and respect as if there were other customers present.

I was provided with earplugs in the bedroom due to the nightclub downstairs that kept playing music until the early hours of the morning. The common areas appeared dirty, and the decor seemed outdated and worn. The bedroom itself was acceptable, but there was no parking available. Terrible. I can’t think of anything else to say. We returned the duck starter because it was raw, and the ramen main was served without any soup. The rigatoni was mixed with mushy peas. For six people, we paid £140. Absolutely disgraceful. Service: 4, Location: 3.
