My husband and I were out for a drive. We were looking for somewhere to have a meal. Unfortunately it was the time of day were the majority of places were closed 15.00. I rang The Duke York to ask when they would be open for meals. I thought I would receive the same short reply as I’d already had which was ‘we are closed try again later.’ I was so very surprised when a friendly lady answered saying we don’t normally start serving food until 4pm but if you’d like to come and have a drink we can take your orders and start cooking whatever it is you fancy eating. How not to win back old customers place was empty for Sunday? I now know why. Well here goes started off ok and went down hill ordered food off menu board and drinks. After 10 minutes the came over and said “there no pies so do you want to choose some thing else” no one in the place at 2pm. Starter where served and to be fair were ok main meal was not dry chicken, 3 small roast potatoes no taste and a small amount of fake mash not fresh potato but lot of nice veg. One of my party asked for a cappuccino stated would 10 minutes then came back and said no can do but you can have a coffee?. Sweets we ask was everything available yes can I have 3 brownies please no only got 2 well all this proofi...
When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a woman who was not very welcoming or friendly at all. She simply handed us the menu and asked what we wanted in a brusque manner. If I wanted to be treated like that, I would have gone to a different restaurant. The food was decent, but it seems to have declined in quality. When we asked for a cappuccino, the woman seemed bothered and told us she could only make a regular coffee, even though we had heard the milk being frothed earlier. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet they claimed to be out of stock on many items. We came in for dinner this evening with our family and our dog and the food was lovely, amazing that you’re dog friendly and the bar area was a lovely atmosphere too even though there was a few people in, the girl serving us was lovely too. Service was fast and my son said his pizza was the best he’s ever had! As it was Wednesday we were able to order from the steak night menu too, my husband and mother in law both had from it and both said they were very nice. The prices are actually cheaper than we are used to back home as the steaks were huge and everything seemed homemade. Would definitely recommend. Thank you again hoping to be back this Sunday to try your roast dinners!
Nice pub with lovely staff but sadly far too expensive to be able to return. The Sunday roast dinner cost £18! There are much cheaper options nearby. £18 would be expected in a far nicer venue. The meat was very nice generous but only 3 tiny undercooked roast potatoes not much veg. The Yorkshire pudding was the main thing to cover the plate
I love the Duke of York. They are very family orientated pub and their food is delicious! Both of my children are autistic and the staff are very accommodating to their needs. The staff are very friendly I have also been for afternoon tea with my friends, and it was absolutely delicious!!
