The Dungeon at Ashford Castle

The area we were seated was not quite as it was a thru way for other guests into the Connaught room. We felt quite isolated and forgotten by the staff at times, due to where we were seated. There was also a draft. When we arrived early for our reservation we were told we were early and if we would like to walk around the grounds. Very disappointed to be asked this esp as it was raining and we clearly weren’t dressed for an afternoon garden stroll. I had to ask if we could actually get into the castle please out of the rain , and perhaps we could sit in the bar for drinks before our table was ready made feel quite unwelcome and a burden by being 25 mins early. Service not to par with other dining establishments on property. Waited well over 30 mins before being informed or meat selection was not being sold due to freshness, which I totally appreciate. But as we were not first dinner service not sure why they didn’t remove from menu already. The replacement was fair but too rare and slightly tough. The rest of the food was ok nothing to talk about. It took way too long for check out, I went to my room and left my hubby to wait. Food &service must always surpass the cheesy decor of any themed restaurant, hopefully just an off night as everyone was still kind and friendly.

I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant. The steak was cold, expensive, and not worth the price. The atmosphere in The Dungeon was chilly, and even though the waiter tried to help by providing a small heater, it was not effective. This meal was meant to be a special reunion for myself and two friends, all nurses who trained together 40 years ago. Unfortunately, for 300 euros, it was a pretty terrible experience.

Had afternoon tea, it was gorgeous. The room where it was served was stunning. Thomas who looked after us was very professional and fun we really enjoyed it. Will definitely be back. 10/10 Reserva una mesa ahora

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! Erin was very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. I especially loved the special touches like the jar of tea and bath bomb. Thank you!

The food and service was excellent! And it was beautifully decorated. I was a little dissapointed that it didnt look anything like a dungeon. More like a high end restaurant.

The dungeon is in the basement of the castle. This is where we ate and the food and service was very good. Very nice ambiance. Prices are as expected, 34-50 euro per main.
