Casual atmosphere, just a handful of patrons eating inside on a Thursday evening. There was an outside area as well and those tables were full. Good range of beers, service was acceptable. You order food at the bar, take a number and food is brought to the table. Our meals were average in quality, the plates were full. Coleslaw was bland and predominantly cabbage, could have been better. Steak cooked as requested, the red wine jus was tasty. Roast potatoes were served with this dish, plenty of them. My partner's sausages and mash were the special of the day and went down well. Cost $78 for two beers and two mains.

The Empress Hotel is working on developing serious gastropub credentials. While the pub is pretty tired looking and lacks much ambience, the food shows that the proprietors are investing is what really counts - great quality produce and truly tasty meals. Great selection of meals including a good choice of kids meals. Although priced slightly above your standard pub fare - the quality of the food makes it well worth it. I was also pretty thrilled at better than average gin selections - so am quietly confident that we've finally found the "local" we've been waiting for.

Family was in the area and decided to drop in for bite to eat.They have a few different areas to sit from public bar, garden lounge area and dining room.We decided on the public bar as my boys wanted to watch some sport on the televisions.They have good variety of meals and kids meals plus some specials too.The meal sizes are very good and all within our party really enjoyed our meals.Beers on tap were delicious....All the staff were very friendly and efficient.The meals are ordered at the main public bar and the turnaround times were pretty good too.

I remember when this place was actually a really cool grunge bar and live music venue (which I have to admit wasn't all that long ago) however it has since given itself a complete makeover and has done away with the grungy feel and simply turned itself into another one of the many innercity bars. Not that this is a bad thing, this pub is still pretty good - the staff are friendly, the food is good, and there are some decent beers on tap as well. Great selection of beer that you can enjoy inside or out in the beer garden, while watching your favourite sport or enjoying a conversation. The quality of food and beer selection is outstanding.

Nice food, dismissive service. Don't be fooled by the unimaginative kids menu - children are most definitely not welcome here. What a change from the great local pub it used to be.

We booked a table to watch the football. The Hotel rang me during the day to confirm the booking, staff were friendly and helpful.

Stopped in for a wine, very happening venue. Loads of patrons all having fun. Very groovy venue indeed.
