we thought it would be easy to find a pub that serves a really good carvery on a Sunday in harrogate, but when we warn about foot. we found this place and it was a walk from the center where we lived. the place from outside looked good, but when we entered them, it felt like it wasn't. we went to the bar to inquire about the carvery and were told how much it was and took our order for drinks and told us to simply help to take care of yourself that was over there, we found a table that was very close to others and had not been wiped off and there was another table that was back close to others with a crowd, but that was just not so easy that we had not cleared up. we went and took our carvery...
Awful food and shocking service. We paid for 2 adult 3 course Sunday roast meals and a kids 2 course meal. I started with the onion soup which was scolding hot, even after waiting more than 5 minutes for someone to bring me a spoon...to eat it with before I went and got my own, it tasted like it had been microwaved. After a disastrous start the main got worse. After clearing our own plates onto another empty table near us i went to get my carvery and most of the trays were empty, they had no yorkshire puddings, peas, potatoes, cauliflower cheese or parsnips.When I asked how long it would be I was told I don't know how long it will be, it's in the oven, I'm not in there cooking it Myself and...
Four of us went here for the Sunday carvery. The food was 5 star with everything piping hot, very tasty and even better then last time we went there. Now the negatives. This establishment allows dogs in and that we have to accept. However allowing...dogs to sit on chairs at the table and owners breaking up food for the dog to eat at the table is disgusting and breaks all hygiene practices. One staff member stood cuddling and petting the dog and did not wash her hands afterwards and was probably covered in dog hair. My wife and I both had to work on Sunday, January 16th, 2022, but decided to book a table for two at The Empress for a carvery at 5:30 PM. We arrived a little early for our reservation and were informed that the carvery had been very busy and there wasn't much left. We were feeling disappointed until the lady told us she would speak to the chef and arrange for us to have two Sunday lunches instead. We were very pleased with this solution, and enjoyed the delicious food and excellent service. The extra level of care shown to us was greatly appreciated, as it can be hard to find nowadays. came today for a carousel. one of the waitresses was extremely rude and abrupt. the man who served carvery was also miserable. eating was moderate and would have been better if it had been served hot. there was a pleasant waitress. I think they have to. improve the hot plate to keep the temperature of the food better. think they would also be better with different servier forks and measurers for the meat on separate tellers, instead of all crocheted in one with the same cute as some people do not eat certain meats for religious reasons and would not eat them if they were in contact with others. I don't think we'll return to this place.
The restaurant has a lovely small courtyard garden that gets the afternoon sun, with plenty of seating inside as well. The decor is beautiful, everything is clean, and the staff is friendly. The prices are a bit higher, but the quality of the food justifies it. The menu is decent, although I didn't get a chance to try anything, what I saw looked well-prepared. Overall, it's a nice place and I would be happy to return in the future.
We came and asked for a table for 4 and all larger tables were either reserved or taken. We were asked how long we were staying and given one of the reserve tables as we would have left before they arrived. The seats were wet...due to earlier rain but they dried them off for us and took our drinks order. They arrived quite quickly. A lovely pub with great service.
This pub has a refreshing atmosphere, and it's wonderful to see that the new owners have continued to improve upon the already renowned carvery, making it even better than before in the city.

We visited here as a family of 16. No problems being seated. Ordered food didn’t have to wait for long for it to come out. Food was piping hot and very good. Will definitely return,
Great venue for carvery and Sunday lunch. Caters for all in a nice setting. Staff are friendly and chef too. Great food and will return.
