Visited The Volley with a large group of friends for a Christmas Party meal, and had a thoroughly good experience. The menu was cleverly thought out, and the food was faultless. Really, really good quality, well presented and delicious. Good value also! It was further enhanced by complementary canapés before the meal, and mince pies to finish. Something of an overlooked pub on King Street, the Famous Royal Navy Volunteer is a fantastic little pub that has a cracking atmosphere and a well stocked bar. Divided into two halves like a traditional pub, with a small function room at the back, the Royal Navy is a popular pub with groups as there are so many large tables and seating areas that one can easily get lost. The drinks are a tad expensive but the staff are really friendly and always let you sample a new guest ale that they are trying out. Very very overlooked pub on kings st. I'd say , take a break from the old duke and the apple and treat yourself to a pint from the vast selection of local and import beers. it is worthwhile asking for a selection as there are a lot of beers available on tap or from the cask. They really need a drinks list closer to the bar! I appreciate that they probably rotate their drinks selection, but it was a little looking or having to move over to the end of the bar, where the drinks list can be found on the wall! However, this was really the only thing that bothered me about the venue, so don't let that deter you! The spirits selection is also worth checking out, and kudos for stocking pussers rum!...

Went here on Sunday just gone as ive heard many good things about it. You can get your roasts with all the trimmings or the full monty, the triple roast which ive ordered. 3 kinds of meat, pork, lamb and beef with roast potatoes, parsnip puree, braised kale, carrots and a yorkshire. Food was excellent, the only thing i could criticise would be no crackling on the pork. Potatoes were fluffy, yorkies crispy, delicious gravy, a complete absence of any frozen produce. Cheese board for dessert, delicious as well. Excellent choice of beers, every ale lovers dream come true, friendly staff. This is a fabulous place. An outstanding selection of interesting beers, very good food, and a nice interior. Convenient location on King Street together with a collection of other drinking and eating establishments most of which are surely also worth visiting. Of course there are some longing for a more traditional, grimey British pub (just check out some other reviews) and there is something to be said for those, but I think the owners have taken a great approach to a more modern pub. Oh, and check out the men's bathroom; I will attach a picture for the 50% of you who are not supposed to go there.

I used to love this pub when it was an old mans pub that sold drinks that everyone could afford now unfortunately this is a complete gastro pub with overpriced handcrafted beers and ciders, and you don't get any advance warning that the pint you've selected is £5.50!!!! It still has comfy chairs and is a big open space, so is ideal for large crowds but has lost it's atmosphere, apart from when the rugby is on. Then it is packed to the rafters.

Hard to tell from the outside, but once you get in it is quite a big bar that is very cozy and has big tables as well as nice booths. Lots of tvs to watch Sky Sports if you are a sports fan. You can order off of an app which is great and they have a very clear beer menu (many vegan) on the wall. We didn't eat but it also looked like they had a very nice sunday lunch with big portions. We could have sat here for hours.

This, is a great Pub with good history. There is a door in the back, where once upon a time, as the sailors got drunk and passed out. they where thrown out, and onto a ship. Where they woke up, and next thing you know, it was either work, or get thrown overboard. Hence the name of the Pub. Good atmosphere, friendly 'tenders. Reserva una mesa ahora

The place is huge, and navigating the different rooms is a bit daunting. The vibe is great, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. None of the beers really impressed me (I had 5 different pints) but they were fine. We didn't eat, but the food looked great. Solid choice.

This is a fantastic pub. There is a large selection of hand crafted ales, the staff are all knowledgeable and friendly, the food is top quality and a real bargain. It 's hard to fault the 'Volley ', it 's a great pub with a great atmosphere.
