This was our first visit here and decided to give it a try after reading the good reviews. The bar staff were friendly, and as we were a little early for our booking we were happy to wait in the bar for our table to be ready. One bar guy was great, friendly and professional, the other one was friendly too but preoccupied and easily distracted. Once the table was ready we were seated. The place mats were dirty as was the table, I’m not convinced it was wiped from the last sitting. The cutlery was cheap and could have also done with a polish. Absolutely no one came to give us a menu let alone take our order, after 15 mins I asked a passing waitress, if we needed to order at the bar, otherwise...
Stopped here with my parents on the way home in the hope they were still serving lunch how fortunate for us that they were. From the friendly locals and landlady to the delicious home cooked roast dinner, we were glad we gave it a try and will definitely be going back. It was also nice to be given a choice of the size of meal we wanted. I am vegetarian and, although I was offered vegetarian sausages, I opted for just veg. With six different vegetables on my plate plus potatoes, homemade Yorkshire pudding and vegetarian gravy I was not disappointed. As good as you make yourself without the effort and the washing up!
just eaten my lockdown sunday lunch and enjoyed every mouthful. this is the best in the area and would encourage everybody to try it.I am a special fan of the cauliflower cheese but everything on the plate is awesome. roast tatties that are golden brown (not burnt) crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, parsnips, peas brussels and the rest. all go to compliment the meat, i had the beef, my wife the gammon and my son the pork, all beautifully done. Keep it up guys and see you soon
Booked a table for 4. Ordered drinks at the bar the glasses were filthy. The food was horrible and tasteless. Huge servings of microwave heated food and cold horrible meat. God only knows when it was cooked. Other older reviews seem to rate this place highly but I wouldn't recommend it even for a drink! Visited for Sunday Lunch. They only offer roasts that basically resemble your worst school dinners. Enormous portions of tasteless food, including boiled cabbage which is something I haven't seen in years. No real vegetarian option frozen, limp veg pie or just the vegetables they offer with the roast meats. It was very cheap but I would have preferred to pay more and get something edible. The service was harassed and pretty unwelcoming.
My family of seven visited this restaurant for a meal. We had a humorous conversation with the owner, who told us the chef was not working that day. However, she kindly offered to cook for us herself. The food was simple but delicious. The staff took good care of us. I would like to return when the chef is back to try more dishes. Thank you to the ladies for taking care of us.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak our Mother’s Day plans were cancelled but the Fox and Goose put on an exceptional take away roast very last minute!! Really accommodating to our needs and the food was amazing! Thanks for making the best out of a very strange situation! Wishing you all the best for the future and take care
