Turns out my work function wasn't in The Fox Hotel's main bar, but upstairs at Dandy's Rooftop Bar.
The lift was out, so my colleagues and I trudged up the four (or five?) flights of stairs. About halfway up I remembered that the last time I was here I whacked my head coming down the stairs- I'm 6'2", so if you are 188 cm or taller be warned.
The best part about Dandy's Rooftop Bar are the sweeping views of the city. We were fortunate to have five large tables reserved, which boasted the best views in the house.

Great atmosphere, cheap lunch deals and some really good service. Met up with another couple and our daughter. Between us we had a steak sandwich, loaded fox burger, fried chicken burger, lamb and haloumi burger, and the Tasmanian smoked salmon salad. Upgraded to sweet potato chips, which were crisp and very moreish. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which were great value at about $16-17. Some fantastic service was had when one of the burger patties was asked to be cooked a little more due to the client being pregnant. Perfectly handled by the host, and a well cooked, freshly made up burger was returned to our table in no time.
I've been to The Fox Hotel a few times over the years and have witnessed some truly bizarre things here, including an attempted robbery that ended very poorly for the would-be criminal.
Thus, I wasn't thrilled when I learned that my office was holding an end of financial year event there last Friday evening.
Beer in hand and some good live music helped to improve my disposition and I was able to appreciate the fact that the 2013 refurbishments are still looking good. The fact that they are under new management probably helps.
As it turns out, my function was upstairs, so I headed up after the one beer.

Horrendous food!
Went here for a function where food was served amongst the party on platters and all of it tasted absolutely awful.
You could tell it was all frozen and then re heated within an inch of its life. Meat and prawns were chewy, pizza tasted like No frills frozen, rice paper rolls I actually spat out and needed a drink to wash the awful taste out. Does the chef not taste their food before sending it out? Management seriously need to look into this issue!
One star for the view from the rooftop.
Went on a Sunday afternoon with a couple of my family friends for a few drinks and a feed. Got abused and sworn at by a sub continent security guard on the second floor. He swore at us profusely and quite frankly we were not felt welcome in this establishment. Made a formal complaint with the head of security. Unfortunate experience I'm sure the entertainment would have otherwise been good but perhaps they should choose their staff a bit better.
Limited food and drink menu options. Staff who appear to hate their jobs and enjoy sending patrons up and down the stairs for cocktails instead of advising to walk around the corner. And not mentioning a lift exists. Poor form. This could be a great gem but it really missed the mark.
good selection of be on tap, a mix of gin cocktail specialties that went well. good place for diners, interesting menu with daily specialties. we had the reubs ' a classic and bbq swallows and float. both were full, very pleasant and both came with a side of fries.

Thursday night dinner and Footy at the Fox. Cant complain! Had the steak special which was cooked perfectly served with crunchy onions! Yum! Excellent atmosphere and lots of great beer on tap! Do yourself a favour!
