A lively and brightly lit bar/bistro with good food options and keenly priced drinks available. Flexible seating options cater for single diners, couples, small parties or larger groups (speak with the staff for bookings) If the weather is fine, make use of the patio terrace and garden space very pleasant during the summer. Nearby activities: Golf courses are fairly nearby and year round. Sailing available in the summer. Good for walking and cycling. There are a couple of small art galleries on the High Street that feature works from local artists and designers. Good for gift ideas, souvenirs and gift shopping. First time for the family to get together in over 18 months. We waited ages for the food to arrive and when it did one meal was cold and the steak was completely overcooked. The service was poor. Complete lack of attention. We struggled to order drinks and no one asked if the food was ok. They seemed to be concentrating on take away orders and it was noticeable the the girls taking these out did not wear masks. Overall a disappointing experience which was a shame as it should have been memorable for other reasons.
We were visiting Carnoustie and looking for a dog friendly place to eat and came across the Aboukir Hotel. Having eaten in dog friendly restaurants for a week we were expecting more English pub grub (as we had not looked at the menu). How wrong we were. We were warmly greeted and chose from the curry menu. Not a massive choice but everything was cooked from scratch and was up there with some of the best currys we have eaten. Great little place to eat and would fully recommend. Even dog friendly which is a bonus.
